Miaghstir: ... playing? ... games?
Pretty much this. I bought a bunch of games during the winter sale but I'm not going to play them until I get a better gaming rig, and I don't have an HDTV for the PS3 I recently acquired, but once I go pick up the one I was looking at I will probably start playing Skyrim, which my brother gifted me for Christmas.
The last proper video game I played was Pokemon White, months ago, and I haven't even finished it since I started it some time early this year. I did play FF14 for a while since I have a lot of friends that play it, and I hope to get back into it, but I haven't had much motivation.
Games just don't really grab me the way that they used to. Part of it is that gaming in general is stuck in some kind of loop where the same mechanics are rehashed because people are ruled by nostalgia, and companies know that nostalgia sells, whereas I personally hate nostalgia. Part of it is that I don't have the access to games that I used to; I haven't had a current-gen console in forever and I've never had a good gaming computer, so most of the new stuff passes me by. The things that don't are what I get through gaming channels, so I often get all the parts of a game that I'm interested in (story, atmosphere, visuals) without the huge investment and, often, frustration, of actually playing a game.
What I REALLY want is an excellent Gundam Wing game.
