Games need to stop trying to be movies.
Quest arrows are the worst game development ever and ruined quest design in RPGs.
Difficulty should be balanced to keep you engaged, not frustrate you.
Anything without quicksave better be damn amazing or I won't play it.
Forced auto-updates are an infringement of consumer rights.
95% of indie games are terrible.
Thief 3 and Deus Ex Invisible War are both enjoyable, despite being the worst of their series.
Fallout 4 was a considerable improvement over Fallout 3.
Nintendo coasts on nostalgia and has barely made any great games in the last 10+ years.
FPS games are mostly good when paired with other genres like RPG, immersive sim or stealth. Endless straight-up shooting gameplay gets boring quickly.
While I dislike the "nothing can be offensive" culture we're moving toward I did always think boob armor was silly.

A game being open world is often a gimmick and adds no value besides needless distance traveling.
I always think an open world game sounds fun on paper, but when I play it, I get bored really easily. I think, for the most part, it's that the devs spend too much time and money on making a big world and less time on making fun quests with a dynamic combat system.

Sometimes, convenience and expediency should not be implemented. Just look at Instance Hub of Warcraft. Back when it started, it was actually a world that people had to go into and interact with it to get what they wanted. When I last played, things like portals everywhere and LFD had made the game a pretty alienating experience in regards to interaction with the world and players. Having to walk/ride long distances, collect materials for class abilities, manually put together PUGs and interact with players within my server made me feel much more grounded in the world back then.

Games that are able to prolong their lives through mods, are not as great as what many of those games' fans make them out to be, as those people are no longer playing the original content of the games. I find it annoying whenever a Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005) fan would defend the game and claiming it to be better in every aspect compared to the newer Star Wars: Battlefront games that are under EA. I'm not saying that they should change their opinions, but I'm only asking for them to at least be honest with themselves that without the active modding community that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005) luckily has, the game might not have survived today. Sure, a game may have been great during its time. But an old game that is great today due to its modding community that constantly produces content just to prevent the old players from abandoning the game? I don't think so. Heck, some mods these days can even overhaul everything that a game initially had, ripping away the true identity which used to make it special back in the days. And yet, the loyal fanboys and girls of that game will still call the already modded game great even though what they have in their hands is no longer the same game (a little exaggerated, I know. But you get what I mean).

Unpopular opinions:
1) Red Dead Redemption 2 is beautiful, but a terrible, hard-to-control, slog of a game.
2) Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice is beautiful but gameplay is poor and story isn't really that good.
3) Uncharted 4 is a bad game. Period.
4) The Last of Us is a good story locked inside a poor game. Yeah, not as big a fan of Naughty Dog as the games' media claims I should be.
5) The Order 1886 is good -- certainly not great, but good.
6) Dragon Age Inquisition is a bloated mess while Dragon Age II is more enjoyable
7) Lord of the Rings War in the North is a good LotR game
8) Elex is a good RPG
9) COD WWII is a terrible shooter
10) Brothers in Arms is the best WWII shooter series
11) Medal of Honor Airborne is just as good or better than COD World at War.
12) The Operation Flashpoint games are good

Unpopular in the Wide World:
- Playing PvP is not as challenging as playing against AI - almost all the time
Unpopular around here:
- Regenerating health outside of combat is a great innvoation and should be implemented in all games

Some of you guys unpopular opinions aren't really unpopular. Behold my random thoughts!
- Grinding in video games actually doesn't exist. Grinding usually involves doing the exact same thing so the only thing, which you never do in a video game. Even when you just farm Enemies for EXP or to get x of something, the actions you often do are different and situational based while also requireing your attention. Grinding in real life requires far less attention muscle memory wise.
- We need more space related video games about trading stuff in space and buying bigger and bigger ships! Nobody cares but I do :D! At least Elite Dangerous does this kinda though its an online game.
- Baba is You is the most original game that came out since Half Life 1. Too bad only HL got popular. One of the very few 10/10 games. GOG should really try to get a hold of that game.
- I don't think 10+ years is really that of long time for a video game to develop. If things take long just let developers do their thing. A 2 year develop time seems to be the norm, add 1 or 2 years extra if budget allows for it to add extra content and "flavor it up", but also to make work less stressful for the developer :)!
- It is good that Freespace 3 will never be in development since Blue Planet exists.
- Gothic 1 and 2 is (so much) better than Dark Souls 1 and 2 could ever be. Even combat wise Gothic 1 and 2 were much but only if you contextualize the time where these games came out. The Speedruns of both games are even more impressive than the "boring" Dark Souls speedruns. Seriously though, its fucking nuts and way above the crazyness of the Dark Souls speedruns.
- A very old opinion of mine. Level editors or any sort of source-code and SDK editor are absolutely essential for any video game so people can make mods. Every game that doesn't enable people to do things with it is very flawed and a bad testament of what developers should try to do. At least developers should consider making an easy to use secret level editor mode that lets you make levels once you've completed the game or something. This rule includes even games that I love or think are masterpieces, though they're are all flawed one in my eyes :D. Hopefully CDPR does it right with Cyberpunk 2077!
- With low budget indie games and a more transparent market, Shovelware as we know it are almost non existent on the PC market. Some of the shovelware games I know are easily GOTY material for some if they would know it.
- A lot of developers who made low-budget games back then were actually quite selfless. I really wish we could go back to a time where DRM stuff wouldn't be so important and where selling like 20.000 games of something was considered a success for the dev.
- This is just wishful thinking on my end, but there should be a REALLY BIG site where people can download all games for free that aren't available on any store. That may sound silly, but a centralized site that everyone knows could be a good way so publishers could check up on what games are downloaded the most. With that data, they could consider selling the game in question again, with all those fixes for modern systems so people don't need to worry about that part)! I think that it could work because of sites like Home of the Underdogs that GOG, or even old games coming back even exists in the first place. HOTU absolutely had a snowball effect on the industry itself and it was noticed throughout the entire intetnet and I'm absolutely certain that the indie game industry wouldn't be existing without it. An even bigger site than HOTU which would "work" with the publishers could have a positive impact, as some sort of protest against games that are lost in the Ether, so to speak.
- Its not even ranked that high on my list of greatest video game companies, but Taleworlds approach to video gaming is the perfect approach to a product as we know it. Release the game and let people have fun with it in any way it is possible. Way ahead over the primitive approach of many other video game companies that just release a game as a product and then move on to the next. Even after 9 years, Mount and Blade: Warband still sees some engine based patching.
- 2018 was just as a good year in video game as 2017 was. 2019 already is the greatest video game year of all time.
