I just watched the movie Looper on Netflix which I thought I would like but did not. I love science fiction but that mostly apply to written sci-fi, not movie sc-fi. But still I will accept a lot from movie sci-fi but this film just went over the edge in some parts while sticking to its basic premises in most of it.
The most important SF aspect of the plot is time travel within this century, that I can accept as an important plot device even if very improbable, but it introduce another totally unnecessary "futuristic" plot device to help end the movie. I do not want to spoil this movie for peoples who want to see it, but I will say that his secondary plot device is something that I have accepted and loved in many SF stories, written or acted.
On the plus side it does not show the near, future i.e. within the 21st century, as being totally different from now as many SF movies and TV shows of the 20th century did. On the minus side it looks as there were 2 or 3 competing ideas of what the future would look like.
If you want to see it then I recommend you do not spend any money to rent it or buy it, just wait for it to show up on whatever service you subscribe to.
