tinyE: That is a pretty bad ass mask/helmet you have there. I'm thinking either wizard or demigod. Well, that or a Mexican wrestler.
I thought you were familiar with Morrowind?

I am but I don't have whatever MOD it takes to make it look like that! :P
I um... I might actually apply for this.

I've been looking for something new lately and after spending time in Europe when younger I've been dying to get back (it's been FAR too long). Not sure this is EXACTLY what I had in mind but it might be something to consider. Leaving family would be difficult, but I'm sure they're sick of seeing me anyway ;) I can buy a seat on a plane for a 90+ lb dog right? He's NOT going into cargo.

Curious to see how this turns out. The inclusion of social platforms makes me wary about the role and engagement of the "Community Specialist" on the forum. But we can always hope...

Vitek: Is it even possible to have experience with 4chan and have excellent spoken and written English? :-) [...]
Ha, thought the same when I read that requirement.

It's kind of hilarious how even the GOG staff's avatars are not showing properly (one next to post, another in quotes) :D

why would we be immune to forum bugs?
Hmmmm, access to GOG's catalog. But relocating to Poland is not in my plans. And besides I'm first and foremost a coder.

No reason I guess, I just somehow find it funny. Reminds me of this.

Any chance a fix is on its way?

Yes. The blues will become immune to forum bugs, while the rest of us will keep our current non-immune status :P

He was smarter than the rest of us, and did it right the first time.

Konrad: Dude, have you seen the number of "webby" positions we're recruiting for!? It's like 85% of the offers right now.
avatar
Cyraxpt: Either the world is lacking Web technicians or Gog needs to improve their offering to those people, no? I mean, how long has been people complaining about the current state of the forum?

And while we're on it, what about the current/previous web team? Granted, i lack the knowledge about web stuff but when there's forum members creating scripts with features that were asked by the community while gog (web team) doesn't do a damn thing it makes me wonder what are they currently doing.

Oh, besides fixing anything related with money/payment, i know that when it comes to that they suddently become active.
There are a ton of people who call themselves 'web developers'/whatever, but most of those are really designers with some HTML, WordPress or minor coding experience. So the answer to your question is yes, there is a significant shortage of good site developers amid a flood of crappy ones.

Speaking as a web dev and former consultant, probably one of these happened:

1) The forums were done by someone who left and the code is a mess so GOG needs someone experienced to sort it out
2) The forums and site were originally done by outside consultants, and no one in GOG got the documentation for the forums, so they have no idea what to change

Also, they might need some special skills which limits the talent pool. There are a surprising number of obscure web programming languages.

It doesn't seem like GOG is offering enough compensation. I mean, Poland might be awesome to visit but just moving in the US is a freakish nightmare and I don't even want to think about moving to Poland. I might be interested, but changing continents with a pet? That's an epic challenge. I know that developers are in demand in eastern Europe so perhaps the local market is so hot GOG can't attract anyone local either.
