If those were actual characters from the game and not some fan-made versions making fun of the game (like someone made an illlustration of "fat Eve" protagonist for Stellar Blade, as a joke what it would look like if it was made by woke-people)...

...then it would have been very interesting to see and hear the design team meetings where they discuss and brainstorm about the character designs, what kind of guidelines they've been given (if any), what arguments they use for those being good character designs that players will love, etc...

I mean, yeah, it is quite hard to understand why someone would want to make characters look like... that. Unless it indeed was some ideological "well we got the guidelines that there must be women of color which are not pretty, don't know why but that is what our boss said".

EDIT: Are those "fixed" character designs, or what is like some of those GTA-like games or RPGs where you can make the character yourself, deciding skin color, body-type etc.? Yeah I recall you could make your protagonist e.g. a black fat lady in some such games, if you wanted to. But that's a different thing.

Sarang: Look at "Overwatch". Though a number of us may have played it there may have been people who just bought figures after seeing the great character designs.
All these comments about how good Overwatch characters supposedly look just leave me baffled, because from the very beginning I found the look of Overwatch to be dull, forgettable and soulless. But apparently it's exactly this kind of blandness that leads to mass appeal.
Yeah ... when I'm playing a game, I want to see some character design that is a bit more inspiring than some random people they could have plucked out of my local Walmart ...
First I heard of this game is all the news about it closing, not surprising.

I am more a Diva, Trigger and Widowmaker fan more than the rest of them. Though I do like the two Samurai types too.

I gotta say that intro movie to the game in the museum had more personality than most Pixar movies I've seen with their fairly stark Utilitarian style.

Not sure if I'm just missing the sarcasm here but these are actual characters from the game and these designs are indeed fixed and not user customized for maximum ugliness. Combine this with racist anti-white tweets from the lead designer and you get the picture...

Not sarcasm, they were just so hideous that I wasn't quite sure if they were really from the game, or like this "fan-made" joke rendition of the protagonist of Stellar Blade:

I hadn't heard about this game before reading the news about its cancellation, and don't know if there has been some big controversy about it before.

This video is interesting, someone redesigned the Concord characters to be more attractive:

Yeah, I think the altered outfit of the first character looks a bit confusing but the face is pretty. Videos like this show what would have been possible. However, that character is modeled after a real life trans person and therefore not allowed to look that feminine... Why did they do this in the first place? My guess is that representation is more important to them than having appealing heroes in their hero shooter that people actually want to play.

Concord Character Designs Fixed by AI:

I think, moving forward, game development studios should just replace human artists with AI.

Or, at least replace all the woke artists who have pronounces and start attacking and offending customers when people refuse to pay for his/her/their BS.

Great find. I'd say most of the designs look pretty neat without changing all that much. Like this fat chick in power armor is still pretty big and armored but looks like she would kick some serious ass. Would play her. Some designs are a bit off the rails like it is not really the same character anymore but generative AI is probably not very well trained with on human characters...
Edit: Nevermind, nothing here.

At least SOME people shopping at Walmart look decent/odd enough that it can make a trip there worthwhile(and not make me want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon ala NOLF).

Yes, because no way could the person/people who wanted the characters to look like this could achieve it with an AI. The AI would stand up for what it believes in and refuse to design ugly characters!

Christ on a stick, this thread.

You shouldn't tempt out future synthezoid overlords 0.o
(p.s. I wasn't being fully serious with that bit you replied to)
