New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

I don't like the new forum design and who needs movies on GOG? :(

At the moment it looks as if GOG will be slowly going down...
I agree with the majority of criticism mentioned and would much prefer a livelier, more colourful design, or at least the option to change. Especially the logo - that should definitely be the original green and yellow!
I think the new layout is a bit too cluttered and I also dislike the fact that I can't immediately see if I've bought a game or not, though guess I can understand why you took off that feature.

I also used to like having all of the 'advantages' to GOG displayed on the front page, at least for someone not logged on. You still have it, but it's a much smaller and not as prominent.

One final thing I noticed, if I try searching whilst in the 'community' area, it redirects me to a new page to search, unlike the regular drop down on every other page and on the original design. Please fix this. It's certainly not a big problem, but a little annoying.

Thanks!

At least Depression Quest would fit in here pretty well now.
high rated
Also if you want a real movie section about games, put King Of Kong in it, not a shitload of whining indiegames dev' or youtubers.

I like the refresh. It's super sharply designed, and highlights the actual products instead of highlighting random interface features. Keep up the good work!
Local currency? Where?

PLN != EUR

This is offical currency used in Poland

We are in EU but we do not use EUR I am unhappy and demand PLN currency in Poland as it still is official currency here.

I really hate the new website, I don't like the colors or the layout. It feels much less user friendly for desktop and laptop users and that was my feeling before even seeing anything mentioning it being mobile friendly. If you are targeting mobile users then it's probably great but I come here for desktop gaming.

moonshineshadow: And why the heck can't I change my avatar anymore. Whenever I trick clicking to change it nothing happens....
I'm still able to. Once you're in the 'account section', you need to hover over your avatar and then click on the 'change picture' message that comes up, not the picture itself. Hopefully you can get it working! :)

Ah okay, sorry about that. As I said, I'm able to change mine, so hopefully it's just a temporary bug then. Best of luck! :)

Those seem to be good news for me.

About that store credit... where can I find it ? How can I add my Witcher 3 fair package codes to my store credit ? I'd like to be able to buy games on promo with it.

Thanks.
I really appreciate GOG trying out new things but honestly the new style is way too gray and geared towards mobile users.

This Apple-stlye, corporate, lifeless, dull overhaul needs to go guys, seriously. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs to look up basic website design and marketing. I am not joking. This is a step back and not forward.

If you want to go mobile why not just develop a better mobile webpage? I work in online distribution but heck I don't need 3 years of experience to tell you that having a mobile-specific webpage is less costly and more effective than doing a complete overhaul and kind of pissing off your desktop users. This shit is good for a tablet display but NOT for 1080p.

Also, about the movies: I think it's a nice addition but are you sure you're going to convince studios and publishers to follow suit after they see some indie films here? I do hope it will happen but it seems unlikely.

I can only repeat what has been said before: please, please, please listen to the criticisms (not just the bugs!) listed in this topic because a lot of people are not really sure where GOG is heading.

I don't like showing tough love to one of my favourite platforms but please realize that there are lots and lots of users out there who are somewhat worried about these changes.

Everything feels more cluttered. It's harder to tell certain things about games at a glance. Less is more and the previous version was simple, clean, and elegant.

Also, what happened to the awesome green & gold theme? This grey is awful.
Search bar is gone. It was faster. Now we have to search in a new window. It is detailed but already existed as "advanced search" previously. So search bar is gone. Thats a clear minus.

where on earth have you had green & gold theme on this website previously? There were some green and orange pixels in the logo and the whole site was exactly grey as it is. Would you kindly go to archive.org and how me this "green & gold theme" you're speaking of? :)))
