New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

My first reaction on this page yesterday was ... WTF? Why? WHY? WHY SO UGLY AND BLAND?!?

Well, now after some time to sink in, I still don't like the new design dearly and my guess is that GOG tries to cater the mobile tablet crowd to accomodate the tablet viewing crowd.

Well, yes, I am not against it, but:

RESTRICT YOUR NEW LAYOUT FOR ANDROID AND IPAD USERS AND DON'T FORCE THIS LAYOUT DOWN THE THROAT OF DESKTOP USERS WHO ARE YOUR MAIN CUSTOMERS.

The one thing I really hate is tablet and android stuff, every time I am trying to use it, I get the impression I am back in kindergarten and I am forced to use things with a boxing glove on my right hand and my left arm is bound at my back. while having a kindergarten teacher in front of me controlling, if I am not trying to do "bad" things.

So, in a more civilizied manner, please make these changes:

- colorful logo, the current one looks like a vampire has sucked all life out of it.
- the sticky menu bar at the top is ok, but the halve the height AND include a search box.
- include a direct search box and not an idiotic extra page for it.
- halve the height of every list item on the site. I'm clicking with a mouse, NOT slamming the monitor in front of me with a fist.
- if you insist on these cover view as a default in the shop, make the cover not square and overlay the text and not make an lifeless time stealing momo (see "Michael Ende") like gray
- in general, more colors instead of lifeless gray.
- in the community wishlist, re-introduce the "report duplicate wish", but with a drop-down-list what wish is duplicate.
- in the community wishlist let me see a) what wishes I already particitpated and b) don't only show the count of fullfilled wishes, but also list, what wishes were implemented. just add an extra tab for it.

Breja: First we have the "gog galaxy thing" (optional I know, but bear with me), now we get the "mobile friendly" design and movies... it feels like GOG is grasping at straws to appeal to some vague "cool, hip, newer audience" ...
Actually, it feels to me like GOG is preparing for another "fresher, better" service: switching to mobile apps. Otherwise it would really made no sense to optimize selling exclusively computer game service for non-computer devices. It is possible that - from the sales viewpoint, anyway - Good Games became Obsolete.
just noticed my bookmark of gog now shows a 404 error , thanks for killing the frontpage gog :X

mdekleine: Nice to see you go forward, new site has much improvements that I like, but there are also some points I like to point out that can be better or i like to see come back.

- Color your logo! It's boring now
- Show better that I own a game. This was wonderful when looking for that buy I missed, but now I can't see it clearly anymore. Games you own are a bit dulled out, but I only noticed after looking at the html\css and then I saw that there is some slight variation. But it also looks like a clicked link. When I looked at the RPG genre list, I could immediately see what I didn't own. Now... I really can't see. This is the worst and needs to change. Otherwise I'll ask the guy from Steam Enhanced to build a GOG Enhanced :P Just show a clear 'owned' sign please.
- Changing color scheme's. Unify it, sometimes it's dark, sometimes it's light. Not so friendly for the eyes.
- Imlement continuous scrolling! Or an option to show all games. Mobile friendly is fine with me, but also don't forget the desktop users.
- Implement a list with when I purchased stuff. Just a 'nice to have' but I would really like it.
- I miss my picture in the top bar... bring me back!

thank you!
Yes to everything you said! Starting to like this redesign, but these would certainly be improvements.
And about the logo, if they want something new, they could go purple and blue like the colors in GOG's Galaxy!

Just wanted to point out that report duplicate wish is still where it was - nothing changed there.

Otherweise agree with your list in full.

Great reference.

I fear the grey men have won in taking over the world. :/

I cant believe no one seems to be mentioning the fact that on browse now you can't identify games already bought. As a long time user of GOG and now racking up a big collection of purchases from them (172 and counting) I find it really annoying that I now can't glance at say adventure game and easily spot the ones I havent got yet.

I can deal with souless grey (forum looks nice if switched to black, so doing it on entire web page would be nice)... Actually happy with the Movies (especially if GOG up the catalogue to incude GamesMaster Tv series :-)
I overall like the new design, thanks for showing news in a linear manner and with text like before the last restyle.

Kind of a minor thing, but I'd like to be able to always see the full description of a game without having to click 'read more', or at least a paragraph of two more, as is user reviews dwarf the product description...

Not sure if it's intended or a bug, but I miss the text "OWNED" in place of the price for already purchased titles we had before. Just greying out the title doesn't make them stand out enough.

Also, I'm aware that the feature has been removed a while ago and not with this restyle but please let us hide already owned titles when browsing the catalogue again.

Oh my god... That never crossed my mind. I really, really, really hope that you are wrong. :(
Some positives:
- Library shelf view loads faster due to removed background texture
- general game shop information looks not so nervous anymore

Just some other things I'd suggest to have be fixed:

- wishlist has no prices attached to it, will I get them all now for free?
- bring back the golden stars on the rating
- make user comments sortable again, alongside timestamps, they also should be visually distinguishably from the shop itself.
- alongside the general game info, there should be a "last update / version" entry alongside a changelog link
- in the game shop I don't see my purchased games at a glance anymore, only on the second on third look. also make a checkbox for hiding already purchased games and mark discounted games visually

Oh, and PLEASE get rid of the gray, this makes the website only depressing.

I don't know if someone already posted this, but wishlisted games aren't displayed in the catalogue anymore.

Not switching but expanding..

Which is again fine by me if they just keep releasing PC games; I couldn't care less about mobile.

aramazon: Fire the guy who made everything grey. And then add some color. I'll be in the corner crying.
Best sentence in the thread.
Ok... now I am seriously getting pissed. After finding the currency button at the bottom of the page I thought "Ok fine, a bit hard to find but ok" ... and now I realised the website does not remember what currency you picked and everytime I leave it and come back it shoves the euros back in my face. Make this an account setting. My country does not have euros as official currency so stop showing me prices in a currency I don't want. freaking shit -.-

And why the heck can't I change my avatar anymore. Whenever I trick clicking to change it nothing happens....
