Up to 75% off Rebel Galaxy, Hard West, Shadow Warrior and more.

If killing is your trade, you better make sure to do it with style. The Samurai know this all too well, delivering death in their ridiculously fabulous armor while wielding finely-crafted stabbing instruments. But are they any match for the scruffy-looking, gun-toting warriors of the West? Let's find out by letting them battle it out in our Weekly Staff Picks: Samurai vs Cowboys — pitching revolvers against katanas, wide-brimmed hats against spiky helmets, and loose leather vests against tight, colorful cuirasses. It's a fierce duel between surefire classics and deeply-cut prices where everyone's a winner.

For most people, the far West is considered to be a relic of the past. Taking on the role of a space cowboy in open-world action/adventure Rebel Galaxy, though, will convince you to also consider it a thing of the future. Because exploring the far galaxies, outgunning space bandits, and collecting hard-earned bounties proves that fashion goes around in circles; and that a sharp tongue can sometimes get you places easier than a fast ship.

Taming the West during its wild years sure was tough and being (un)dead definitely doesn't make matters any easier. Seeking vengeance in the brutal afterlife of Hard West takes turn-based patience, gear-collecting obsession, and painful decision-making. There is no country for dead men but perhaps there can be a semblance of peace. Or bloody retribution.

Now, fancy gut-piercers and shiny bullet-propellers are fine on their own but why choose when you can have both? Shadow Warrior (2013) lets you blast through exotic locales as pissed-off shogun Lo Wang, taking in all the sights in first person and wreaking havoc with weapons or magic to any other person standing in your way.

It's Weekly Staff Picks: Samurai vs Cowboys! Join the fight between these two iconic castes of warriors picking your contestants among titles such as Skulls of the Shogun, Way of the Samurai 4, Ronin, SteamWorld Dig, and more! The promo will last until January 22, 10:59 AM GMT.

BrokenBull: How does Rebel Galaxy fit in with Samurai vs Cowboys??? Are they in this game?
avatar
vicklemos: Probably there are some space cowboys. Speaking of such, where's a game based on my dearly loved SilverHawks, world? Platinum games? Anyone, except LJN*??!

* I was so mad about this cartoon that even devilish EA could do a game based on it! :P
There, I said it!
SilverHawks, such a great western anime(by western I mean non-Japanese and no pun intended). Unfortunately it was overshadowed by Thundercats.

Hunter65536: It has a western feel to it. I can't express it exactly but the same way you'd get western vibe from Firefly.
Seems interesting. I wonder if I'll break down and buy it before the sale ends :D

Is Lo Wang Samurai? :P
Hmm... Hard West and 1849.... but i wait for some more generous discounts.

Starmaker: And fwiw, I've never seen an IRL elevator which can be sent off empty
How to send an empty elevator in RL on its way:

-step into elevator
-push button for the floor you wish the elevator to go to
-step out of the elevator
-watch elevator's doors close
-watch numbers on elevator's display rise (or sink), as elevator moves to the desired floor

There's really no magic involved.

;o)

BreOl72: There's really no magic involved.
Elevator dependent. I have seen some older ones that won't accept a floor input with the door open.

Yeah, I guess the old fashioned ones, where you have to close a scissor grating after entering, won't work in the described way...but those are - well: old fashioned!

I have yet to find such an elevator (here in Germany! - Can't speak for other parts of the world, ofc.).

Not a scissor grating, but older ones, yes. I think I've only encountered it with elevators that didn't have sliding doors, but doors that opened outwards.
See if you can find an older elevator, 60s or 70s should be of that style. But it's not as if you can just walk into a building and find one :/

I actually know one building where there's such an elevator with a "swinging door" - a friend of mine once lived there.
And - yeah, I guess, that won't work, if you open the door after choosing the floor.
Have never tried it, to be honest.

But that's a dying breed, I'd say.
All the more modern ones have these sliding doors.

Believe me, I tried. As soon as I step out, the doors close. No elevator I've ever seen goes anywhere without a human-like load (unless called, duh). I live in an apartment. It's a pain in the ass to fit a bike into a passenger elevator (and while it's there, I can't call the cargo one).

Painted_Doll: Do you think people will buy it from Gog after it was free on Steam ?
avatar
tfishell: Probably just those who don't use Steam, or didn't know it was free on Steam.

The point of making it free on Steam was for the devs to promote their upcoming game, though I don't remember the details.
And no announcement or comment from GOG about it, not even on their beloved 3rd party channels? Or did I miss something?

I may even would have bought the game when they would have sold it nicely to me* (like the GOG version is not available for free as it contains the soundtrack and other goodies, although, when the game is free on Steam now, they could have offered a higher discount as on the games last sales, maybe 85 or 90%). But this kind of non-communication doesn't bring me into the mood to spend money on it and rather makes me mad.

Does anybody know how long the game is freely available on Steam?

* (even though the game is somewhat complicated to play under Linux/Wine and it's not clear if the GOG version is also patched for it)

Um, were you expecting GOG to direct people to their competitor? Or what am I missing?

So, the Ronin Digital Special Edition just add the soundtrack and comics, but the game is the same? No more levels included?
Well, in the end I also bought Shadow Warrior 1.
I have 3 wangs now O_o
Outlaws would have been a good pick for that theme.

Yes, it's on my wishlist... ;-

Edit: After reading all comments, I realized Outlaws was mentioned at the beginning, so it was picked, but then taken off the promo. I conclude that must have something to do with Disney...
