Up to 75% off Pillars of Eternity, Satellite Reign, Legends of Eisenwald, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty and more!

Gaming sins are a regrettable thing. Whether they come from games you shamefully put aside without finishing them, from questionable methods you used while trying to finish them, or from borrowed discs that you claimed were already scratched - they might all give you trouble sleeping. But the worst offenders are always the games you should have picked up and never did. Well, worry not, fellow sinners, for our Weekly Staff Picks: New Year Absolutions will help you settle the bill with the Gaming Gods and venture into the rest of the year as a whole new person!

If you've missed out on Pillars of Eternity, ten "Hail Marys" will hardly cut it. After all, this is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, some of the most celebrated RPGs of all time, we are talking about here. Complete with meaningful customization, real-time-with-pause combat, a captivating story, and memorable NPCs, it's not hard to see why this one is strongly favored by the Gaming Gods.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, a captivating exploration adventure, has recently reappeared in all its reduxed glory. You investigate the recent murders on sleepy Red Creek Valley as a detective summoned there by the young Ethan Carter. But once you piece together the nebulous clues, a horrifying discovery will make you question your very perception of reality.

A war is going on in the neon-lit streets of Satellite Reign. The mega-corporations keep citizens under their thumb, dictating the rules of democracy in this cyberpunk, dystopian future with the strong Syndicate vibes. You control a customizable band of defiant troublemakers, and infiltrate, hack, kill, or bribe your way towards upsetting the status quo. Will you prove yourself a liberator, an alternative evil, or just an opportunist?

The more gaming sins, the more New Year Absolutions needed to wash them away. Thankfully, our Weekly Staff Picks offer a delectable selection of over a dozen winners, like Legends of Eisenwald, Grim Fandango Remastered, Transistor, and Tales from the Borderlands, going for up to 75% off. Get, play, love. The promo will last until January 29, 10:59 AM GMT.
D4 looks interesting but I thought it was basically only QTEs as opposed to a few of them. How hard are they? If they give you ample time, you can infer logically what you are supposed to do (no extreme trial & error) and you don't have to replay large segements of gameplay just to reach the last place you lost to continue I don't mind them...too much. :P
<bluetext> Hello people, GOG here.

During the previous year, we've received a number of complaints (even a death threat at some point) about the Weekly Staff Picks and how it *sucks* from time to time and all that nonsense. So, we sat around the table to discuss about it and with great determination we decided that it's about time to blow your brains out!

We present you the most awesomephuck!nglicious WSP that GOG ever had! Now BUY! :DDDDDD

Not all too hard, you have a bar on the bottom that shows you what the next action will be so that helps too.
Failure doesn't usually impact much, you see a funny scene a lose some hp which you can easily regain.

Transistor is a great game! It's made by the same people that created Bastion!
Not sure to buy Wasteland 2 or save my money for the next big sale.
Finally some games i want to get...

But... i know i wouldn't play them for a while, and I'm hesitant to buy more games already, I've probably spent too much last year as it is...

This puts me in a tight spot...

catpower1980: mmm, some interesting stuff here but I can't afford them (or I already have them)...

BUT what's interesting me is the Grim Fandango remastered as it's cheap and back in the days I had technical problems with it so I couldn't play it. What bothers me is that I recall a lot of shitstorm when the "remastered" game came out (I don't even remember why....).

So: Yay or Nay?
Not sure. I'm still in doubt myself. The shitstorm may (also) be in regard to bugs present in the remaster that weren't in the original. No game-breaking bugs (they where there but SHOULD be fixed) but the fact that there are some issues that are all new kind of irks me. While a very important bug is fixed - a crucial piece of dialogue between Manny and Domino in Year 3 can now be triggered - there are still quite some others there that apparently won't be addressed anymore.

To name a couple of them:
- There's no underwater reverberation in Year 3 (licensing issue for the filter as I understood)
- The water animation isn't looping correctly in quite some locations in Year 2
- Smoke from cigarettes is going through characters' heads
- Apparently (haven't verified this myself) the cat race announcer in Year 2 sometimes stops talking and never starts again.
- There appear to be some mouse hotspots missing
- Some newly designed assets for the remaster, for example the Sproutella logo, were done visibly rushed and without regard for the original designs.

So if you don't care for this (or don't mind the re-recorded music) and want to play, admittedly, one of the greatest adventures ever made, then it should be a definite yay.

Great! I might get it then.

Yes and the soundtrack is good too.

Highly recommend Ethan Carter especially now with the Redux version; performance is top notch and the save system is improved. Added note: make sure your rig covers even recommended settings, this game is meant to be played at high settings. Another tip is to try and play it in as few sittings as possible.

Impaler26: Nothing for me in this promo. Money saved. :D
I knew you'd appear! :P

vicklemos: C'mon, average backlogger, say it: "meh promo" or "nothing for me this time"

I DARE YOU
I DOUBLE DARE YOU!!!

IAmSinistar: It's actually a great promo it terms of items on offer. For me though the majority of things I'm missing are the various "deluxe upgrade DLC" packs for various games. While normally I'm a completionist, most of them in this case don't offer good value for money. So I'm passing this time.

But again, if you don't own many of these titles, it's quite a nice promo.
It surely is. And the amount of games is supreme, too. Way to go, GOG!

Stevedog13: Let's see... a few "spiritual successors" to games I didn't like to begin with. Some Point n' Click adventures for licensed properties that I'm not familiar with. A few indie games I've never heard of and therefore don't really care about.

Meh..nothing for me this time.
;(
Click the buy button. Just.. do it! :D
ps: If I were the folks behind Syndicate I'd be honoured to have such a game as a "spiritual successor" of my work.
SR seems so solid and stuff...

Smannesman: I'm not super impressed with these deals, but I might pick something up.
But basically this 'staff pick' is a repeat of some previous deals?
Best GoG deals offered on everything except Wasteland 2 which was less in the summer sale. Also Pillars of Eternity has been this price before. Everything else is at a new low.
