The cornerstones of every strategist's collection: up to 80% off the Eador series, Stronghold Crusader HD, Battle Realms, and more!

What do all great strategic thinkers have in common? Well, they are able to see the big picture and make the necessary sacrifices, even under stress. They always plan one step ahead of their opponent. They have a perfectly detailed imprint of their chin at the back of their right hand. But more importantly, they always seek fresh challenges. Like the ones that await you around this Strategy Corner, with an inspiring discount strategically placed on top of them. Your move, general.

RTS and city-building gameplay elements collide in the blood-soaked Arabian lands. Build your own castle, amass great armies and lay siege upon heavily fortified settlements as the Stronghold Crusader HD.

An epic game of thrones in the fantasy-coated realms of the orient? Yes, please! Battle Realms and its expansion Winter of the Wolf see the clans of the Dragon, the Wolf, the Serpent, and the Lotus go at each other's throats with their trained fighters, ninjas, and spellcasters.

Slip through the cracks of a procedurally-generated galaxy ruled by our mechanical overlords and wage a desperate AI War against their oppressive rule. The odds are against you but humanity needs your real-time combat skills and your strategic planning in order to fight back.

Turn that Strategy Corner and gain a vantage point over these diverse and unforgiving battlefields. Put your plans to the test and conquer the challenges inside King of Dragon Pass, The Last Federation, Pacific General, Frozen Synapse, and many more! The promo will last until March 15, 4:59 AM GMT.

rtcvb32: Question: If I buy the 'Lost Technologies' DLC for The Last Federation (completing all DLC purchases) Will I get the collection by default (like The Pit upgrade?) Or not?
avatar
mrkgnao: If you mean will you own all the contents of the Collection, then the answer is yes.
If you mean will GOG mark the Collection as owned, of course not.
What I am wondering is if they are planning to someday fix this annoying and nonsensical bug. Why do they never answer to this king of questions? I can understand their secrecy policy about new relases, but not when it is about this bug fixing stuff.

As I've answered in some other thread, this bug has been around since late 2013 (Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold Edition). The fact of the matter is that it is very low on GOG's priority list and it is likely to remain very low. I expect they don't think they're losing many sales over it so there's no real rush, and I expect they are right.
Contrary to what most people wrote I'm considering Space Colony (yeah, I know I said I'm only buying Blitzkrieg from this promo, damn you GOG!) exactly because it offers something different. I've never played Sims so I can't tell if I'd hate that sort of gameplay that much as some people but I'd rather try Space Colony than the bazillionth Star Craft clone.
GOG broke my will again.

Got:
Etherlords
Etherlords 2
Eador. Masters of the Broken World - Allied Forces
The Last Federation - The Lost Technologies

I'm only missing Blood and Gold: Caribbean! and I'm not even a little temped.
pls, how is blitzkrieg 2 ?

is it really worse than first one? it has the same number of stars, though reviews seems to be quite reserved..

Do it!
I just had a minor "video game freakout" - I had been meaning to pick up Bionic Dues, but I knew I wouldn't be playing it this weekend so I decided to wait until today, just in case there was something I *had* to have in the staff picks (I like doing this - I can get a bit obsessive with it during sales LOL - but I prefer to have one transaction rather than repeated tiny ones).

So I fire up the main page, and the "box" that cycles sales doesn't have the arrows! It's just the Staff Picks - on no, I freak out, thinking I missed the sale and it ended - maybe the countdown last night was glitched and I DIDN'T have all of today to purchase! ...

But, a quick refresh, the arrows show back up and the Weekend Sale is still there. *phew!* I was doubly worried because while I've passed on it during other sales (when it was cheaper damnit ;) ) I want to make sure I grab it just in case Arcen has some difficulties (here's hoping they don't!).

chevkoch: Thanks, good to know. I played Startopia back when and enjoyed it. As far as micro-managing the station inhabitants goes, how do the two compare? From the reviews of Space Colony I've read it sounds like they have almost no initiative of their own and have to be told to do about anything.

Vythonaut: No problem! I'm not sure about Space Colony as i haven't played it for the same reason as you. Which is a shame (for it to focus on Sims gameplay) because otherwise the game looks stunning. So, what i know about it is what i've read in the reviews and nothing more (haven't tried the demo yet).

Maybe i'll buy it sometime in the future but for now i'll pass. Pretty much what i say everytime it goes on sale! :P
I took one for the team and got Space Colony, have played through the main story missions and invested some time into sandbox mode. If you set up basic facilities right, your crew will for a while take care of its needs by itself, but never as efficient as when you'd tend to the individual members' happiness meters manually.

Work efficiency will drop more and more the longer you ignore your staff, so you will find yourself having to micromanage it quite a bit, in-between periods of space station expansion and maintenance. I remember Startopia demanding less in that department, but on the other hand, the visitors to take care of there featured fewer stats to satisfy.

Well, Space Colony is more complex than Startopia (and I like that), but I maybe enjoyed the latter game more nonetheless, as the focus seemed a little more on the station itself and not as much on pampering those wandering about.

Space Colony is fun in any case, for me for a shorter while than I anticipated perhaps as I feel I'm done with it now. One thing I really wished for was that you could rotate facilities and items before you place them; in that case you could build a station that's more like you really want it.

EDIT: different wording when comparing Space Colony to Startopia to hopefully convey an idea clearer

You couldn't say it better! I prefer focusing on a station/ city etc rather than on it's inhabitants. Thanks for taking the time to write all that info about the game! :)

Vythonaut:
You're welcome, glad this perhaps helped you a bit in making your mind up getting Space Colony or passing on it :)
