Well, I'm a big fan of Wasteland 2, so I'll be keeping a close eye on this one. Hopefully they don't gear it too much for multiplayer (although they're saying the core is single player, I'm a bit concerned about that).

The game features sound pretty good, other than shoe-horning multiplayer in there. I loved WL2, but honestly inXile can barely make a functional single player game, the Director's Cut of WL2 was still buggy as hell.

I just played through it and didn't find it 'buggy as hell'. What's so greatly buggy about the DC?

The fact it still crashes on AMD cards randomly (still does), that the camera bugs out during combat requiring you to quit the game (done this in the original and was never fixed), companions disappearing (may have been patched now). The Linux version is also a mess and crashes consistently no matter what you do.

Ah, I have an nVidia card. This is the first I've heard of this one. Never had it happen in the original (3 full runs through and close to a dozen to the end of Arizona), or the DC (1 run). As above, never heard of this one or had it happen in all the runs I made through the game. Yeah, I've heard of Linux issues. I don't know if the above stuff was fixed or not, but as noted, I didn't encounter any of it the my single run through the DC, so maybe they addressed it.

I liked Wasteland 2 a lot, despite many little issues, bugs and imperfections. I've come to expact that from the really big, long RPGs with a lot of content. I've only spent more time with Lords of Xulima this year than I did with Wasteland 2, and that's only becuase LoX is way more grindy. So I'm looking forward to playing Wasteland 3.

The multiplayer sounds a bit worrying, I hope it doesn't diminish the single player in any way. The vehicle on the other hand sounds good. A mobile base of operations of sorts should be very useful.

One thing that I'm a little unclear on (and it's on honest, if possibly stupid question, not calling the devs out on anything) - I get crowdfunding the first game, but if it sold well enough to warrant a sequel, shouldn't that also mean it sold well enough to fund the sequel?

I have an nVidia card now and a playthrough I left off in Cali, so one of these days i'll have to see if the crashing stopped. I'm not sure if the camera bug is also an AMD only issue, but I had it happen many times in the original and DC. When it happens you can scroll around, but the scene never moves and the background gets all distorted, depending on where the remaining enemies are sometimes you can muddle through the rest of combat without quitting. As of the latest the Linux version still crashes 25 - 50% of the time for me when loading new areas.

Totally understandable, but I didn't feel you were coming across sore. I was actually interested in what issues you were encountering, since I had none. (I know - and also hate it when - often times many people post to say "I didn't have any issues with the game" when some people complain about games being buggy). But yeah, I just wondered what the problems were that you encountered. I certainly understand the frustration of firing up a game with great anticipation and then running into nothing but a string of issues. Been there before.

Why wouldn't they crowdfund it, regardless of there own cashflow? Look at their history: They got almost $3 million for Wasteland 2, $5 million for Torment: Tides of Numenera, and $1.5 million for Bards Tale IV. That's over $9 million in zero-strings-attached, no-risk money for them. The fact that the money comes early in the development process is just icing on the cake.

Whether you agree with the business model or not, it easy to see why it's compelling for them to do it.

I'm happy about the possibility of another Wasteland game.

What I am skeptical about is mostly the prospect of crowdfunding on FIG. : / Sure, the campaign for Bard's Tale IV on Kickstarter probably didn't meet expectations, but I have yet to hear many positive things about FIG. >_>

Hopefully, this won't delay Bard's Tale IV to 2020.

Nothing particularly revolutionary that would urge me to back it: multiplayer aspect is not my thing, and not really interested in registering on another crowdfunding platform. i'll probably buy it here around launch if it meets my expectactions for singleplayer since i really enjoyed Wasteland 2.
