Okay, so, after discovering Sword Coast Legends (and specifically, how much it sucks,) on Steam, and ranting about how the ToEE and original NWN games were better, I decided to go ahead and try and buy them again. I played them way back in the day, loved them, but buggered if I can find the disks.

I then decided to throw on Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, because it was also a good one from back in the day. I tried to pay with my debit card, and the payment was refused.

I went to my bank to sort the mess out, and was told in no uncertain terms that because the transaction was apparently coming from Cyprus, a part of the world where bank fraud and transaction fraud was rife, all transactions to and from Cyprus were blocked. They said that they would allow transactions, if I wanted to, but any fraud that hit me would be my problem, not theirs.

They also don't have any sane options like "Just allow the NEXT transaction and then no others," they only had "wide open for two days" "wide open forever" and "nothing at all."

Deciding that I couldn't really run the risk of losing all my cash, I sought alternative means of payment. PayPal is right out, because I do not do PayPal, for reasons which are both personal and technical. So I saw that gog.com accepted something called "paysafecard", which a German friend of mine swore by as the way he did all of his online transactions. So I checked their website, and discovered that yes, there was an outlet within a reasonable distance of me!

So I drove there, paid $26.75 for a $25 paysafecard ticket, drove home. I attempted to check out with paysafecard from gog.com, which redirected me to paysafecard to input my ticket number.

I did that, clicked the "pay" button, and nothing happened. The Pay button just turns into a "wait" circle that spins forever, while I watch. The PIN input in Firefox turns red, and hovering over it tells me to please use the correct format - but I have.

I tried again with Chrome. Chrome does not give an arrow, but it does the spinny-forever wait thing.
I tried again from my Android smartphone, this one gives me a "Please enter a valid PIN" error. I checked the balance at every stage on Paysafecard's website, it always tells me that my "card" has its full amount on it.

I sent info@paysafecard.com an email, with screenshots and photos of my receipt with the paysafecard PIN on it, asking to know what was up. The was yesterday night, and they still have not gotten back to me.

I'm seriously incandescent with rage here. Did I miss something about GOG.com not being able to take payment from US-bought paysafecard tickets? Is Paysafecard screwed up somehow? Have I actually been defrauded, and if so, what step(s) should I take to remedy this?

Get ahold of support and wait don't send multiple tickets either you'll be sent to the back of the queue. I am pretty certain you aren't being knowingly defrauded.
I can't help you with the paysafe card, but many of us in the U.S. that have problems purchasing games on GOG because of the Cyprus issue use PayPal.

I sent an email to them already, because I needed to include the pictures. Or at least, that's what I thought I needed to do, and that's what their website said to do to include photos.

Maybe I'm impatient, maybe it's a cultural thing, but Americans tend to expect prompt responses from people who are handling our money when there is a problem - and paysafecard is, in effect, handling my money by proxy. So not having received a reply today makes me very, very nervous. How long should I wait?

Yeah. Unfortunately, I don't into Paypal, and "go down to the slightly seedy truck-stop down the road from the less-seedy truckstops, give them hard cash and they give you a slip with a number that you can use like a prepaid card" sounded good at the time.

So, now I'm very frustrated.

Sorry about your trouble. I hope it gets resolved soon.

ShadowDragon8685:
patpal has a "pay by credit / debit card" option meaning you dont have to sign up. this can be a pain in the arse if you're not paying on a store that sells in your local currency, but you should be good to go.

it will "charge" a small fee the first few times you use it in conjuntion with any email address (in my case it was £1) - but you get that back - its basically and insurance thingie.

I'd say give that a go until you can sort out the paysafe stuff.

Edit: Patpal?!?!? O__________o

Well, you could try that too I suppose!

Eh, I'm american too and I would be patient with this as I know the support section of GOG isn't handled 24/7 with hundreds of employees covering. I'd just be patient for a response.

I really, really wish I'd known that before I consigned over 12.5% of my total liquid assets into the nebulous void of Paysafecard.

No, it's Paysafe that I sent the email to, as they're currently the ones who have my freaking money and I'm really, really upset about that. Especially since their terms say that any refund I do manage to get will be less $7.50 of my money, meaning I'll still be out $9.25 (counting the sales tax applied to the Paysafe thing.)

Well I knew those kind of donations were a viable commodity in the USA, but... just be glad it wasn't your soul! ;D

My bank told me that if my debit card numbers got used to charge up any fraudulent activity some fraudster overseas felt like, I was on the hook for it, so I went and explored other options.

PayPal was not a good option for me, or so I thought, so I looked into Paysafecard, and discovered that a truck stop about two and a half miles from my home was a paysafecard vendor. So I figured "Hey, that sounds like a plan."

And now I'm deeply, deeply regretting it.

I could use a patpal right now. :p

It could be worse at least - you could have just bought Beneath a Steel Sky, Tyrian 2000 etc and then joined GOG, only to find out, they are free here! - along with the paysafe horror!

Edit: fact is, you at least discovered one hell of a good forum! Hell - somebody must have a spare Torchlight left - give this guy one!
