The classic style managed to make quite the revival these last years.
I definitely see the appeal since 4th edition basically became like an MMO.
Unfortunately it seems like moving to the US is the best solution if I ever want to find another group ;)

I can never been introduced to something I have never touched the medium's full fletched personification.

I would like a suggestion however on where I could start, I have watched Spoon's Table Monkey series but in here, there is no market for D&D, so I have never seen a box set.
