My favorite will always be Gothic.
One of the major story premises is that there is a massive orc horde behind an unbreachable wall. You only engage with smaller orc raiding parties but the game keeps the orc horde threat pretty important to the story. There was a place where I managed to wall jump over the unbreachable wall and found a sign. Something about the grammar, the tone, and they put a sign where people should not have gotten to do just cracked me up.

"Ok man, you made it behind the great orc wall, as you can see the story of the orcish horsed behind this wall is a complete fake. There is nothing more to find here. This place is abandoned. Its the end of the world. But me (a mighty alien dwarf, which not depends to this game story and which name is not of public interest here) wanted to warn you. You've been tricked to believe a story, wich is not true (they want to get you) Do not believe anything they say. Keep your eyes open! The mighty alien dwarf"

My 1st runner up is Fallout 3 where after some work to find a hidden vault door, you open it to find a solid rock face and the slogan "F-You". Totally surprised me and while I'm generally not one for profanity, the absurdity of seeing it there made me laugh.

My 2nd runner up is Ultima Underworld II. If you attained high level spells much earlier than you were supposed to (by clever wall jumping and story timing), you could unlock things that you werne't supposed to. One of the NPC's has a book titled "Sex by Madonna" in a typically unlockable chest. Pretty racy for 1994.

It would be the 'reset' the computer screen in X-Men on Sega Genesis.
I was stuck for a day, leaving the console powered on as I went to school. Come to find out from a game magazine, that you literally had to reset the Sega Genesis. This was scary as I thought I was going to loose my progress resetting my Sega, but after pressing the restart button on my Genesis the screen did a 'reboot' and I was able to continue playing the game!
I love the reference to Monty python & the holy grail in the witcher. The invincible white rabbit in the cave of Caerbannog. Don't know if it counts as an Easter egg but I love it.
In Oblivion, Agarmir's journal in Imperioal City that has a list if items that he stole from Oford Gabings (Frodo Baggins)
The cheat code for Minesweeper for Windows was a fun way to cheat/showoff for people. It was a fun joke to play on people and got quite a few laughs and a drink or two out of it.

Input the code and a small pixel would light up to let you know if you were hovering over a mine. Such a subtle cue, it was never noticed unless they were also in the know.
I'm going to go WAY back in time for mine. I played the original Bard's Tale gams on Commodore 64 as a teenager. In Bard's Tale II there was a way to buy any item in the game in a shop. When you went into the shop, before selecting the option to Buy, you would take the floppy disk out of the drive and put in a different disk. Then when you selected Buy, every item in the game was available to buy! You had to have enough coins of course to buy them, but there they were! Thor's Hammer? No problem! Sword of Zar, you got it! LOL I've never been one to use cheats in games really, but it was hard to pass this one up when I heard about it way back when!
In Silent Hill 2, after getting all 3 regular endings, a dog house will appear. After investigating it, you'll find a unique key. Using this key to unlock the observation room will reveal a shocking twist - a Shiba Inu named Mira was responsible for everything in the game.

It's a twist so memorable, that there's even a Trope named for it - https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheDogWasTheMastermind

GOG.com: What is your favorite video game secret/easter egg?
Well, I honestly don't think I'll win anything. But I'm going to play and comment. I grew up with the Nintendo brand. So I'm going to touch on the secrets and easter eggs of some of the video games I grew up with as a video gamer. I feel like they're all pretty well known to the public.
1. The first The Legend of Zelda (NES): The dungeons in the shape of letters and numbers (forming the word: Zelda).
2. California Games (NES): If the username is Paul or Rachel, the following will appear on the ground at the end of the walkthrough: PP4RME.
3. DKC64 (N64): Original Jetpack and Donkey Kong Arcade video games.
Bonus Easter Egg: The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine - The "D.L.C" monogrammed handkerchief.
The edge-of-map logic from Motocross Madness. The map was surrounded by very steep mountains that you could barely climb, but if you did and went further outwards, you were thrown back like you were shot out of a cannon.
Well, I'm going to mention a couple. One would have to be the leather jacket on Fallout 1, which pays tribute to Mad Max. Also the wretched hive of scum and villainy quote on the same game. I think it was for Junktown.

I would also have to add any of the easter eggs on Leisure Suit Larry 7. Back then when I was playing the game it was so cheeky to find them. Favourite ones have to be the Anette and Drew ones. :D

The Minecraft Caves in Borderlands 2 was the best easter egg in video games for me.

Actually, I'm a player who enjoy getting fun, hunting achievements or just looking every aspect about the game i'm playing at time.

In Borderland 2, this was not the exception, It was a game that i really enjoyed for a long time, even did two complete playthroughs. Although the first time i played it, i could expext whatever, after all, borderland is what we talking about, but that Minecraft easter egg was a strange and crazy surprise for me, even for a borderlands game.

And now I think that little things in video games that anyone never expects is the reason that we love video games!
There's so many it's hard to keep track of. I know it's a rather new game but Hunt: Showdown has two I rather like. One is Zom Ross (Bob Ross's zombie) sitting on a chair that's nestled in some bushes on the edge of a forest with an easel in front of him. It's hard to tell where you are at any given point in that game as so much of it is similar looking wilderness, so whenever I accidentally bump into Zom Ross I can't help but smile.

The second is a shed with a tarp draped over a car... in old-western zombie-infested Louisiana. A car might seem rather odd to find in this scenario, but when you notice it's a DeLorean it all makes sense.
My favourite easter egg is literally The Easter Egg - you can find it in Fallout 2, New Reno Arms basement. Apparently, it was supposed to be a recruitable NPC but Black Isle gave up on that idea.
Fallout 1 and 2 were ahead of their time with all these great in-game jokes, homages and cultural references.
Let's see *Plucks an egg from my wicker basket*:

One of my favourite easter eggs is in the Witcher 2 on Iorweth's path: When Geralt says they have to get past the gate somehow and Iorveth will answer with the sentence "Piece of Lembas." which is referencing to the elven Lembas bread in The Lord of the Rings.
