I do enjoy collecting "removed from catalog" titles... but 2/5 episodes done and $30?
You know it will be abandoned here.
I'll pass.

I'm trying to imagine the physics of that.
I'd think even someone with massive leg muscles would have trouble kicking a whale anywhere.
You could kick a whale sure, but it's not going to move, down up or anywhere else.

Take all this with a grain of salt, i wouldn't say i've been following this game's development too closely.
I just want to say, from what i've read a lot of people consider the real main mode of this game to be the survival mode. When the game was originally in EA it only had that mode. They are now adding a story mode to it and have done 2 out of the 5 episodes but from the conversations i've read on the Steam forums a lot of people still consider the survival mode as the main reason to get the game and the story mode as a nice addition that is slowly being worked on. I don't know if a story mode was originally promised, but when i bought it in EA there was only the survival mode and that was the reason i got it.
From what i've seen (haven't played it yet, want to wait for it to be completed), quite a few people don't seem to think too highly of the story mode so far. In fact from what i understand when the 3rd episode is released (last i saw they said possibly December) the devs are also going to be revamping the first 2 episodes with certain changes based on feedback from players. So even if all the episodes were out, i still think the survival mode is still going to be the main mode of the game and the main reason to get it.
The devs claim that the first 2 episodes of the story mode already add up to 15 hours of gameplay. Don't know how true that is though because i'm waiting for all of them to be released before i bother like i said.
Also, i think they've i've seen the devs say a few times that if the story mode is successful enough, one of the things they might consider is a "Season 2" of the story that would be sold as DLC. That would be after they complete the first story (5 episodes). Not sure how possible future paid DLC/expansion would work with the GOG version if they did decide to go that route instead of/before moving on to a new game. Guess we probably wouldn't get the option to buy it.

Gah, this grinds my gears a bit. Would have enjoyed a DRM-free copy of the survival mode alone. Guess they no longer wanted their product DRM-free. Humble only sells Steam keys. *shrug*

Need one more example of people poisoning the Kickstarter well? Here you go. Glad I didn't buy into their scam, but for another reason: They promised ingame exclusives.

Ya it sucks when a developer doesn't deliver all their Kickstarter promises. That's why when i buy anything that's still being developed i buy it if i'm okay with the current state of the game. "If this game was abandoned tomorrow, which is always a possibility, would i be okay paying the current asking price for what is currently there in the game". Haven't done anything with Kickstarter up to this point, but i appreciate those who do take the risk, because we've gotten some great games from Kickstarter. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hinterlandgames/the-long-dark-a-first-person-post-disaster-surviva

What sucks is when these games leave EA while still unfinished, like The Long Dark did in some ways. Not everyone researches everything before they buy it, so when they see that it fully released they wouldn't be wrong to assume that that means the story mode is finished.
On an unrelated note, for anyone unaware, the Long Dark occasionally has holiday related events that only seem to happen in the Steam version and not the GOG version. Guess that's definitely not changing now. Just fyi.

Haha, this is glorious!
gog: gets the game removed from the store, no goodbye discount
Steam: gets an all-time-low 75% discount that very same weekend
Well done, chaps! You sure showed all those suckers who panic-bought your shitty game at full price! A true masterclass in treating gog customers as second class - and then spitting them in the face for good measure.

Seems like the publisher is in desperate need for more money (75% off for a still in development game, shortly after being sold here for 50% off?), maybe GOG had/has fears that the game will never be completed. gog: gets the game removed from the store, no goodbye discount

Now I am glad I did not cave and bought it. Let's see what will happen in the future (IF there is any future for this game).

I was interested, and it was on my GOG wishlist. Now I'm not interested, and it's not on my Steam wishlist. Even at the sale price, I have already moved on.

I've owned it for quite awhile. The sandbox was ton's of fun on my old, nvidia, based laptop. Last time I tried to play on my newer AMD based laptop, it was a no go. I haven't tried in a bit.
It will be interesting to see if the whole "I'll still get updates" thing works out.
