IAmSinistar: Ah, sorry, I misread your post and didn't think you wanted your items added. Which one do you want on the list, the Melomakarona? And should that replace the other entry for Honey Cake?

Incidentally, I love Kourabiedes myself. Some places around here call them "Greek Wedding Cookies" instead, possibly because they sell them all year and not just around Christmas.
Well, apparently it seems I misread the OP as well -despite it saying "battle" right there, I didn't notice there'd be a voting system afterwards and all... So, excuse my lack of observance, I guess. Because of this thus I also didn't notice I had to justify my submission -especially as I had mentioned these before in your other thread (the one about disliking early Xmas...). So my justification is regarding melomakarona, that if they're made right, they are nice and surupy, and also pretty healthy (they have honey syrup)-anyways, I find them delicious, and I can't really justify why I find something delicious most of the time...).
Anyways, if you add stuff that aren't "cakes" in the strict definition of the term, you can add both melomakarona and courambiedes -and next to melomakarona you could keep in parentheses Vythonaut's "greek honey cakes" search results).
Also, I didn't know courmabiedes are available in the States and are used in weddings -that was something new to learn!

edit-vythonaut ninja'd me somewhat in terms of melomakarona and "greek honey "cakes" being the same thing, but anyways...

budejovice: My dad makes a wicked pecan pie at Thanksgiving and Christmas, often with pecans from the tree in the back yard. Man. I'd probably have to vote for pecan pie.
I'll allow it. My brother loves pecan pie, but it's too sweet for me. Though not as sweet as shoofly pie.

budejovice: But to stretch definitions just a bit, Epiphany is part of the holiday season, and the somewhat bizarre King Cake is the star of that time. My connection to it is much more Lenten (growing up in Texas, fully aware of New Orleans), but I like to stretch definitions. :)
King Cake is good (though I prefer beignets). But the Pelican's King Cake Baby comes straight from Hell. :)

IAmSinistar: EDIT: Looking at the name - Melomakarona - I'm wondering if there is a root-word sharing going on with "macaroons". Certainly seems likely, since both are small ovoid sweet cookies.
Actually here's an article about the etymology of the term (the article's in greek-put it on Google translate or something). It seems thus that "melomakarona" and "macaroons" share the same root etymologically.

Nice, thank you! As an armchair philologist, I like it when my deductions are correct. :)

tinyE: The movie I got it from is a terrible Australian zombie flick. Lots of potential and it just goes to hell.
I kinda thought that was the intended destination of most horror movies.

Don't do it people! Don't click the link! :)

Yeah, beignets are the best. Unfortunately I haven't been to NO since the storm. My last visit would be really hard to beat, though, so I may never return.

On December 31, 2000 I saw Big Star perform during a rare New Orleans snowstorm. RIP Chris Bell, Alex Chilton, & Andy Hummel. :)
Yule Log sounds really good, though I'm old and I've still never had one. :)

At home when I was young, we always had pies (mince, pumpkin and etc,) candies and cakes. One cake called - Boil Cake. If I remember correctly, it was much like, or the same as fruit cake.

Pumpkin Pie .. Yes!
Lemon Drizzle!

A great all-purpose cake for your everyday Viking. A tasty top-up between battles, an excellent weapon in a pinch and a fantastic decoy when outnumbered by opposing forces. Better than whoopee cushions for those let's embarrass grandma moments, too. :-) (Just slip one underneath her as she's sitting down, its hilarious!!)
My favorite cake. You Sir have very good taste!
Ha! Probably the best episode of that show.

I was trying to find the Sesame Street clip where Sherlock Hemlock deduces that the remains of a birthday party are actually the aftermath of an alien cake battle. But I don't seem to be able to locate that one.
I'm boring so I'll have to go with a plain old cheese cake.

So rich, so decadent, such a perfect way to end a feast. How much better does it get than a small slice of cake that weighs about 7 pounds ;)

Once in a while I'll do some tart cherries in a sauce on top, but it really doesn't need it.

And while I don't usually do chocolate cakes, holiday time is PERFECT for a black forest cake. That would be my "honorable mention."

I tried to use Google translate to see if you'll understand anything from the auto-translation and it gave back some funny side effects!

Anyway, in the sentence "... to use words like: I wish, blessed, defunct, blessed and last, macaroni, spaghetti and more.", these words do have the same root in greek but Google translated them thus you can't see their relation: "... to use words like: makari, makarios, makaritis, makaristos and more recently makaronas, makaronada etc.".

Well, don't know if I helped you more regarding the very interesting article that Treasure pointed out, but let us return to the battle.

*sends pm to Grargar, JMich, RenKalan and others to vote for Melomakarona.. ha!*
The cake though, 'tis a lie.
