DeMignon: Is anyone else getting annoyed by all the DLC shenanigans recently? I mean, Pillars of Eternity was surely expensive enough to deserve a complete release, without cashing in on DLCs a few months afterwards and Shelter 2 is hardly big enough to deserve a costly DLC at all. That content should have been definitely part of its initial release. Not much motivation left for me to buy any further games at release or even pre-order at the moment.
I've been annoyed by DLCs for a long, long time. it's to the point now that I don't even pay them any mind. On certain games, I seriously will not buy them until GOTY come out. it's not worth paying all that extra money for things that either should have been in the original game OR were scraps on the cutting room floor. I've been burnt too many times.

Probably the best thing to do, but still sad. Bugs aside, it's fun to play a game while the community is still bustling due to a new release. Though with half of its content released bit by bit, I feel kind of cheated, because I simply don't have the time to play every game several times. I'd like to make a good run and get the best out of it, maybe even as a completionist. Restarting a game a few months after release just because some contend was added is not a good option for me. Then it would be better to get proper sequel imo.

I know how you feel. I want to play the games right away too b/c you get so wound up, but unfortunately i've found that most of that leads to disappointment. Borderlands pre-quel is my best example. Loved the first two games soooo much. When the prequel was coming out it took me all of my strength not to preorder it (I was still bitter on getting burned on borderlands 2 dlc). Thank gods i didn't b/c it wound up being a crap game with a bunch of crap DLC.
For games like Fallout 4, it makes no sense to buy the vanilla because you know there's inevitably going to be an ultimate/goty edition, just knowing Bethsoft's track record.

EA games are notorious for DLC post-launch too, but they've recently started giving mini-expansions versus "DLC" (I liken DLC to the crap that should have been in the game on day 1) - such as with Dragon Age: Inquisition - yes, there's a couple DLC's that are basically item giveaways, but the two pricey ones are mini expansions, one taking place after the main quest is finished (Jaws of Hakkon) and one taking place about halfway through (The Descent (?) ) - These are worthy of carrying the "DLC" moniker imho because they do more than add a "Shortcut to Golden Weapon X for $5"

I still don't like the concept of DLC on principle, but we are a vastly underrepresented portion of the gaming population. These days, I only get DLC that I feel is deserving of my hard earned money, or I skip it, since most of it is rubbish anyway.

My Point: I agree.

yeeeeaaaahhh, I may have to break my "don't buy a thing until GOTY" when it comes to fallout 4. Now i'm not gonna buy it day of, I"m gonna hear the reviews, but yeah, i needs it. Bethesda has me under their spell. although I did wait for Skyrim...

Agree... a lot of DLC's i know, be more like cosmetics or in-game items yet they costly too much. Also I've been thinking to buy Fallout4 when goty edition came out rather than pre-ordered.
Well, if you DO buy FO4 at launch, no one will blame you. I'm betting it's going to be good :) Then again, I'm one of the people who played the originals (including Wasteland) and liked FO3. NV I never did finish, though I think I may reinstall it and see if the unofficial patch + Win 10 compatibility fixes got rid of the CTD's.

yeah, NV is buggy as crap on the PC, to the point of not enjoyable. However, on the PS3 it's great. rarely does it crash.
