By the way, does Virus count as a guilty pleasure movie?

awalterj: On the technical side, the movie is just as excellent. The CGI effects are convincing and still look better than most films released today. Soundtrack, costumes, props, design, everything is top notch.
Indeed. It's funny, due to the limited budget Verhoeven had to decide whether he wanted great costumes or great CGI. He chose the CGI and the uniforms still ended up being awesome and classic (even if they differ very much from the ones described in the novel), not to mention that the CGI holds up to this day.

Definitely. Wasn't great by any means but I loved it.

Breja: Yes, it is blatantly obvious, but no, there is nothing stealthy about it, which is why I really don't like Starship Troopers and RoboCop.
avatar
Telika: Strangely, Starship Troopers bores me, but I adore Robocop. I don't think they belong to the same category, or try to achieve the same. Robocop has a real story for itself (a cop thriller with frankenstein themes, plus a vague reflexion on how-much-of-a-robot-should-an-ideal-cop-be), set in a society which is a mild caricature of our own. It's not an "exercise in style" (for its own sake) like Starship Trooper...
Lot talk about the great Paul Verhoeven. Anybody seen Flesh+Blood? Great film.

Haven't thought about that movie in a while, definitely a guilty pleasure movie. I had all the action figures back in the late 90's .

Yup. I loved that film. A friend of mine who loved that film too said that he has rewatched it recently and found it surprisingly bad. I don't believe him, but I'm a tad scared now.

Especially as I recently underwent a phase of rewatching my beloved james bond movies and finding them all absolutely horrendous. Bad times.

I agree there is a story in RoboCop, but it's buried beneath the tiresome attempt at satire, instead of the story being put first, and the satire being subtly hidden beneath it. That's why I actually like the new RoboCop more than the original (I know, blasphemy)- it put's the main character first, and dials back on the satire. Well that, and it has Micheal Keaton and Gary Oldman.
Watchmen has absolutely nothing to do with "bad films" so I don't know what that dude smoked when he put it in the list.
Grave error.

From what I remember, good cast for a terrible flick.

Didn't it even have dear old Ripley herself?

One of mine was just on TV not too long ago - Slither! This movie is just awesome beyond words. Another one with a solid cast in a faux schlock horror flick.

Also, the Evil Dead movies are NOT bad films! They are classics. ;)

Neither does Man of Steel. Just ignore it, like I did. If someone has taste that bad it's pointless to waste time on even pointing it out.

The creator certainly hated it and book fans aswell. And I read the book first.
Dungeon and Dragons. Come on,Jeremy Irons saved the flick,he unleashed the Hog everytime he's on screen.

I have seen alot of people bashing too much on Man of Steel.

Moviebob, Screen Junkies, Cinemasins, Nostalgia Critc AND Chick, ItsJustSomeRandomGuy, Sams Channel.

Speaking with such rhetoric that this is the worse Superman movie ever.

Even though Superman has been in WORSE than Man of Steel.

Superman 3 and 4 were so bad they reached out of the screen and slapped you.

The movie was well done. I'd say it's underrated.

I didn't think Man of Steel was that bad. I thought the fight sequences got a tad repetitive but I thought Russell Crow did a nice job and it was a beautiful looking movie.
