Ten of 2016’s niftiest releases and a limited selection of wonders on sale now.

2016 had its rough spots, but surely we can all agree on one thing: it's been a delightful year for video games. To cap it off, we’re putting ten great releases from this year on sale, alongside bundles of classics and modern wonders in the Goodbuy 2016 Sale!

Obviously, the hardest part has been picking just ten games. Through a particularly scientific process that may or may not have included copious amounts of eggnog and missing teeth, we have whittled down the list of GOG.com’s 10 Good Buys of 2016 (in no particular order) to:

INSIDE
The horrific, twisted, and morbidly beautiful followup to LIMBO is one of the most memorable experiences of the year and a damn fine puzzle-platformer to boot.

Owlboy
A endearing piece of pixel-art that warmed your hearts with its quirky cast of characters and unique platforming mechanics, which let you carry around those you care about.

Starbound
Recently updated and chock-full of fun activities and adventuring opportunities, Starbound is one of our year's most promising InDev graduates.

Stardew Valley
Simple, addictive, and endless, the absolute indie hit of the year (developed by just ONE guy) made us all into accomplished farmers, explorers, harvesters, and lovers.

Grim Dawn
Some here say that isometric aRPGs have a new king and that he's wearing some stunning gear, yields devastating weapons, and murders things with just a few mouseclicks.

Obduction
A spiritual successor to Myst from the magicians behind the original series, this first-person adventure transported us to stunning worlds, where the familiar and the strange collide.

Darkest Dungeon
Brutal and unforgiving, this roguelike dragged us down to the depths of despair before giving us a glimpse of hope in the form of a well-timed critical hit. Then our team died. Again.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered
Tim Shaffer's offbeat point'n'click reminded us of the art of time-travel thanks to the tastefully updated presentation now enhancing its impeccable puzzle design and timeless humour.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine
Geralt's last hurrah was a dark, whimsical, and occasionally emotional adventure in the breathtaking region of Toussaint, the perfect farewell to our battle-hardened, award-winning hero.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
The game that single-handedly revived the stealth/tactical genre made popular by Commandos. The amazing Japanese setting and fine-tuned gameplay definitely played a role in that.

You can also round out your collection with a selection of classics and modern gems up to 90% off, including Neverwinter Nights 2, Homeworld Remastered, Rebel Galaxy, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Grim Fandango Remastered, and Fallout 1 & 2, to name a few. Plus, scratch that sudden STAR WARS itch with bundles including Rogue Squadron 3D, Battlefront II, Shadows of the Empire, Galactic Battlegrounds, Knights of the Old Republic, and more.

Plus, for the first time ever, Blood and Wine, Hearts of Stone, and the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Expansion Pass for the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are 40% off! If you haven't upgraded to GOTY yet, this is the best way to leave the year on a high note.

The Goodbuy 2016 Sale might not be huge, but you’re guaranteed to find plenty of awesome games to add to your collection. The sale will last until December 28, 10:59 PM UTC.

MasodikTiasma: You're right, but it is confusing nevertheless. I spent most of last month's sale double checking prices between my wishlist, the games' store pages, and the "bundle" interface. It is hardly convenient. Eventually I ended up buying almost nothing. GOG, if you're having categories in your sale to make browsing easier, why not labelling them as such ? I dunno, call them "list", "publisher catalogue", whatever. Something to help us differ actual bundles with an extra discount from the rest.
Definitely. The issue is really that the bundles and these lists look exactly the same and it's only through trial and error that you can figure out which is which an what discounts are better etc.
So separating them in some way would be much better...
OMG, Arx Fatalis on sale?!?!

park_84: OMG, Arx Fatalis on sale?!?!
I'm actually a little bummed. It started to become extremely funny to me to see people ask "Hey, when was / is Arx Fatalis going to be on sale?"

Oh silly country mouse, if only you knew... now, GoG's taken that from me! ;)

Inconceivable! And GOG goes full stealth and doesn't even mention it in the news post. ;D

It's finally mine! Thanks GOG, you lovely, sneaky bastards. :)

adaliabooks: I presume it's meant to be an easier way to browse then actually a traditional bundle. As in, here are some RPGs that are on sale. I think the confusing thing is they do both side by side without differentiating.
Think of it like the weekly sales, they're basically presented the same way (separate page with games on sale on it) so this is just like multiple weekly sales all at once.

But there is such a distinction! Those groups of games where you can receive an additional discount for grabbing most or all games are called bundles, but those groups that are mere lists of games aimed at giving them visibility are called Collections. It has been like this at least in the last sale, especially with those "[Some youtuber]'s collection".

The problem is, GOG never mentioned this distinction anywhere. Collections and bundles are presented side by side so it gets very easy to mix them up as well.

Grargar: Arx Fatalis is finally discounted after 4 years. :P

guppy44: And I literally just broke down and bought it for full price four days ago. After not seeing it in the Winter Sale I figured there was no hope.

Come to think of it, after I bought Street Fighter Alpha 2 and The Incredible Machine for full price a couple months ago they went on sale right after as well.

Either I have the magic touch or they're deliberately waiting for one poor sucker to buy and then discount. :)
I've been thinking about buying Timeshift. Would you mind buying that at full price now so I can expect a sale on it soon?

Either way, you should make a thread named like "Discounts to come; I see GOG sales" or similar. It should prove useful during Insomnia sales. ;)

It seems like he asked for it. :P
Also, nice name/title combo! :D

Schnuff: Pweeh, GOG needs money? Hostile takeover not a rumor? Or why are there sales every few weeks?
Good question .

Also where's this weekend's deal ?

Thank you GOG, this looks like a much better sale, than the last Monster Bundle was!
I wish everybody nice holidays! :)

AB2012: ^ I have to agree with these comments, though from what I understand a lot of it is down to how Broken Age was developed. Basically, they received far more Kickstarter money than expected so they greatly over-expanded their vision, so much so that after blowing half the budget on celebrity voice actors, they ran out of money and had to sell the game in two halves. The first half was story-driven with light puzzles (which a lot of people like), but they took a minority of criticism of "too easy puzzles" too much to heart, and made the second half a tedious "grind-fest" exercise which spoiled the overall feel of the game for many. It's not the worst point & click in the world, but the "game of two halves" and poor "change direction mid-flight" project management shows quite clearly in the second half of the game.
The celebrity voice actors actually worked for free or at least for very little, as I understand it. I've watched part of the "making of" documentary and one figure that blew me away was that fulfilling the backer rewards cost them something like $400,000. Which is why I don't care about stuff like that, either with Kickstarter or charities: I'm not giving you money because I want extra STUFF, I'm donating because I believe in what you're doing and want you to put the money toward your goals. I don't need any more coffee mugs.

I thought the game was fine and I actually liked the second half more than the first because I do appreciate the more challenging puzzles. Even then, I don't recall any of the puzzles being tooth-gnashingly hard - the game is actually quite well-designed in terms of how it hints at solutions, especially compared to Schafer's prior works.

Holy crap, Arx Fatalis is on sale! I'm glad I didn't buy it last week when I was mulling it over. Ended up getting Outcast instead :)

I most certainly will, thank you very much. :)

Speaking of dungeons, how is the 'Free Konrad' campaign coming along?
Thank you GOG, got Arx Fatalis and few others, you are awesome! <3
