Ten of 2016’s niftiest releases and a limited selection of wonders on sale now.

2016 had its rough spots, but surely we can all agree on one thing: it's been a delightful year for video games. To cap it off, we’re putting ten great releases from this year on sale, alongside bundles of classics and modern wonders in the Goodbuy 2016 Sale!

Obviously, the hardest part has been picking just ten games. Through a particularly scientific process that may or may not have included copious amounts of eggnog and missing teeth, we have whittled down the list of GOG.com’s 10 Good Buys of 2016 (in no particular order) to:

INSIDE
The horrific, twisted, and morbidly beautiful followup to LIMBO is one of the most memorable experiences of the year and a damn fine puzzle-platformer to boot.

Owlboy
A endearing piece of pixel-art that warmed your hearts with its quirky cast of characters and unique platforming mechanics, which let you carry around those you care about.

Starbound
Recently updated and chock-full of fun activities and adventuring opportunities, Starbound is one of our year's most promising InDev graduates.

Stardew Valley
Simple, addictive, and endless, the absolute indie hit of the year (developed by just ONE guy) made us all into accomplished farmers, explorers, harvesters, and lovers.

Grim Dawn
Some here say that isometric aRPGs have a new king and that he's wearing some stunning gear, yields devastating weapons, and murders things with just a few mouseclicks.

Obduction
A spiritual successor to Myst from the magicians behind the original series, this first-person adventure transported us to stunning worlds, where the familiar and the strange collide.

Darkest Dungeon
Brutal and unforgiving, this roguelike dragged us down to the depths of despair before giving us a glimpse of hope in the form of a well-timed critical hit. Then our team died. Again.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered
Tim Shaffer's offbeat point'n'click reminded us of the art of time-travel thanks to the tastefully updated presentation now enhancing its impeccable puzzle design and timeless humour.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine
Geralt's last hurrah was a dark, whimsical, and occasionally emotional adventure in the breathtaking region of Toussaint, the perfect farewell to our battle-hardened, award-winning hero.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
The game that single-handedly revived the stealth/tactical genre made popular by Commandos. The amazing Japanese setting and fine-tuned gameplay definitely played a role in that.

You can also round out your collection with a selection of classics and modern gems up to 90% off, including Neverwinter Nights 2, Homeworld Remastered, Rebel Galaxy, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, Grim Fandango Remastered, and Fallout 1 & 2, to name a few. Plus, scratch that sudden STAR WARS itch with bundles including Rogue Squadron 3D, Battlefront II, Shadows of the Empire, Galactic Battlegrounds, Knights of the Old Republic, and more.

Plus, for the first time ever, Blood and Wine, Hearts of Stone, and the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Expansion Pass for the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are 40% off! If you haven't upgraded to GOTY yet, this is the best way to leave the year on a high note.

The Goodbuy 2016 Sale might not be huge, but you’re guaranteed to find plenty of awesome games to add to your collection. The sale will last until December 28, 10:59 PM UTC.

Vythonaut: Worms Armageddon
I'm probably going to buy only that O_o
For me personally, the last sales have been lackluster at best. This sale follows in that wake. It appears that the new normal will be sales offering limited discounts and building bundles which, if you remove one title you lose the main discount percentage.

This is certainly a sad trend and makes sales feel like, just another day on gog.

For me, these sales have not given any real incentive to fork over hard earned cash for the same title I could have bought the day or so before at the same price or near it.

Here is hoping gog wakes up and starts to have sales that engage the buyer and give reason to purchase.

GOG.com: 2016 had its rough spots [. . .]
Companies taking political stances usually don’t end well . . .

jamotide: Could there be a Goodbye President Obummer sale? It would have to have discounts of max 1%, so it would be a yuge disappointment, a oh bummer if you will.
Fixed it for you. Also, no refunds would be granted during that period. :P

Grargar: Arx Fatalis is finally discounted after 4 years. :P
Dang, I just got it for full price! I threw it in with games that were discounted during the winter sale. Grr :)

And I literally just broke down and bought it for full price four days ago. After not seeing it in the Winter Sale I figured there was no hope.

Come to think of it, after I bought Street Fighter Alpha 2 and The Incredible Machine for full price a couple months ago they went on sale right after as well.

Either I have the magic touch or they're deliberately waiting for one poor sucker to buy and then discount. :)

Completely agree. Personally, I'd rather there be more individual games than this obsession with bundling everything. Eg, Morrowind's listed GOG "base price" is virtually double what GOTY retail discs have been selling for on EBay inc postage for +10 years, so a 50% 'discount' is pretty much "ordinary" pricing. MW is only really "on sale" at +66% or more at its maximum bundled discount and yet the two games Morrowind is bundled with (Battlespire & Redguard) are quite honestly unplayable for technical reasons (the 1-2 star reviews are accurate). Other Bethesda bundles like wanting Doom 1-2 & RTCW but perhaps not Quake or Wolfenstein also almost doubles the prices vs pre-bundle individual 75% discounts they used to have in previous Holiday Promo's.
Thanks for the sale GOG! Merry Christmas!!
SALE SPAM! Yay!
inb4 "The Hello 2017 Sale" in two weeks.
Another sale? Isn't this third sale in last 2 months or so? Awesome end of the year:)

Comeone people, Obummer (Oblama) wasn't that bad a President :XD ....
Arx Fatalis is totally worth the full price and you all know it.
Finally grabbed the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games along with Arx Fatalis :-)

Impaler26: As expected there's nothing for me in this sale but that's fine.

Be aware that GOG only has the english version of Arx Fatalis while the Steam version has 6 languages including german. So if you wanna play it in another language you can grab it on Steam where it's currently on sale for 1,64€ (67% off):

That's all fine and dandy but what about all the other games? Don't you be running out of Steam on us now! ;P
Well, broken age and day of the tentacle bought.

adaliabooks: I presume it's meant to be an easier way to browse then actually a traditional bundle. As in, here are some RPGs that are on sale. I think the confusing thing is they do both side by side without differentiating.
Think of it like the weekly sales, they're basically presented the same way (separate page with games on sale on it) so this is just like multiple weekly sales all at once.
You're right, but it is confusing nevertheless. I spent most of last month's sale double checking prices between my wishlist, the games' store pages, and the "bundle" interface. It is hardly convenient. Eventually I ended up buying almost nothing. GOG, if you're having categories in your sale to make browsing easier, why not labelling them as such ? I dunno, call them "list", "publisher catalogue", whatever. Something to help us differ actual bundles with an extra discount from the rest.
