OK so looked up more and the main allegation being raised is that Lizzy quoted the glassdoor reviews word for word and hence the anon sources are not actually real but are LIzzy's accounts on glassdoor and twitter.

So she used anons as a source and her words were similar to the glassdoor reviews; but I don't see any more unethical-ness from her part beyond being slightly one sided and using anonymous sources which many other game journos use and still use.

Except people within gg crowd have in fact responded to (the few) legit threats and harassment from within.

Indeed, I keep hearing allegations of harassment by GG folks, but I haven't really seen any to write home about. It's mostly a strawman that the aGG folks like to erect because their position has so little merit to it. If they couldn't cite a few anonymous trolls that are likely just trolling, they wouldn't even have that.

It would have been ethical of the Escapist to not even publish it in the first place, hoping for Roberts to respond to the article originally published in an entirely one-sided form, then skilllessly working his response into the article (without his consent, of course), obviously leaving out the parts Fogarty felt uncomfortable with. Ethics failure on ethics failure here.

Speaking of which, the UN report on cyberviolence was exactly that, an atrocious ethics failure well deserving of removal.

In that respect, you may thank Quinn and Sarkeesian for keeping marvellous form at the "cyberviolence" thing. They expressly never spoke about games, gamers or gamergate at that panel. Quinn passionately defended online anonymity and Sarkeesian expressed hope for a self regulated internet in which awareness is key.

You could not in your wildest dreams have hoped for better UN speakers to keep gaming out of the discussion and to address the problem of harassment without advocating the loss of online freedom. Surprise: Gamers and internet enthusiasts speaking. Your cultural peers, in a sense.

As to Quinn's opinion on the report that was typed and printed when that panel started, well, no surprises, gentlemen.

Every word I've written about the glassdoor reviews eight hours ago remains factual.

The accusations were first published on glassdoor, and the very same accusations, partly word for word, were worked into Fogarty's article. Those are the facts of the case. I have made no statement about whether I thought these accusations were either just repeated by the same people, as Fogarty claims, or taken by Fogarty from the glassdoor website.

However, I do find it interesting how Fogarty manages to condense Skype conversations that allegedly lasted over an hour into accusations that are so strikingly similar to the glassdoor reviews the ex-employees have supposedly written up days later.

Correct, "cyberviolence" sounds like something from an 80s movie that tries hard to sound hip. *sigh*. However, I don't think it was necessary for Harper to mention that explicitly before tearing into the ample problems with the report itself.

Yeah, "women and girls". I would have welcomed a broader spectrum, but there it is. Not surprisingly, Quinn's own prevention program doesn't have such a narrow focus. Now, I understand that women and girls deal with certain special and definitely targeted attacks, and deserve our special attention. Yet talking about cyberviolence in such an extremely broad (and, concerning the report, off topic) way, yet cutting out half of the population, that didn't sit right with me. Men are attacked as well, and when we define what abuse and harassment is, we can't just define it for women and girls. At the very least in those first steps, we need a broader perspective.

I thoroughly disagree with your not-the-real-life perspective though. The internet is part of real life, harassment on the internet is equally real, and the reaction to abuse and harassment is NOT to just stay out of the internet. Of course, that particularly applies to people who have built a social circle on the net, and those who actually WORK there. In the context of gamergate, y'know, the argument would be "hey game dev, you can stay off twitter if it's too much for you". You will understand that this is not a solution, it is in fact part of the problem.

Just a few thoughts: "Cyberviolence" is a bad, dumb bullshit word. There are enough words like bullying, harassment, even abuse. Cyberviolence is watering down the word violence - which should be a strong word for real physical actions. It's the same like the word "rape" becomes belittled by calling every little thing rape (like abusive remarks, "undressing with the eyes" whatever). Things like don't help the victims of real violence (or rape) at all - on the contrary.
I don't want to belittle the abuse than can happen online - but it's mobbing, harassment, whatever, and nobody ends up beaten to death or with broken bones. And you always can turn the computer off, stay off twitter, facebook, whatsapp. It's not like you're cornered by 20 bald-headed muscular drunks who want your blood (or virginity).

The next thing is this. "Women and girls", really? And the 14yo boy that commits suicide after online abuse is nvm? Or the 40yo male teacher who loses job, family, life after being denounced as a "pedo" by some disgruntled kid with a vengeance?

Don't those two statements contradict one another? Clearly, you are implying you don't believe Fogarty actually had these lengthy conversations over Skype. You imply you believe Fogerty doxxed Chris Robert's daughter.

The scary thing is, that people like Roberts, Schafer, Whedon, whom I used to have respect for and considered intelligent, reflecting people, are drinking the "feminist" kool-aid. "Feminist" in quotation marks because I think those SJW types (sorry Vain) a a long way from what feminism (as I understand it) is really about.

I've considered myself "feminist" for most of my adult life, just because it is IMO just a part of being "humanist" - believing that all people deserve equal chances and "pursuit of happiness". And I think there are still remnants of "culture" or "traditions" (mostly rooted in old Christianity) that are holding women back even in the western world and I'd like to see this changed. [Side note But there are also things where men are at a disadvantage (like i.e. custody) and those need to change too.]
Thing is, I really hesitate to describe myself as "feminist" nowadays, because of all the hate spewing people that have occupied the word. It's become a swastika of some sort, a former symbol of good luck and good intentions turned foul by radicals.

Goodish news on the Lizzyf620 thing; they're pursuing legal action against The Escapist. So the case will be decided based on all the evidence. If the courts find her guilty it would set a precedent for bad journalism which will probably be used liberally until someone disproves it and if the piece was fair, we can have a court decision saying so.
