Vainamoinen: Cool down everyone, focus on the funny stuff:

This 12 minute TotalBiscuit rant completely based on the false assumption that the 'poem' was created by Obsidian writers.

It's grand comedy. Absolutely hilarious. Historical accuracy here, adds to the lore there, "We should support the artist when it comes to making jokes like this". "You are telling an artist to censor himself". "This is attempting to bully an artist into taking something out of a game". "I respect that artist's right to shape that world first and foremost". "[the joke] really does add to the universe".

Still rolling on the floor. The original tweet that brought the poem to Obsidian's attention already contains the information that a backer created it. Not sure what sources the Biscuit even used to have missed that.
avatar
MaGo72: Which false assumption? Right at the start Total Biscuit says that the rhyme was provided by a $500 backer. SJWs sigh...
Yes, exactly at 0:40.

It seems Vainamoinen hasn't even heard the first minute of the posted link.
I guess it was just an assumption created by some other SJW who either pulled it out of his/her ass or simply lied again to fit the agenda and the hive mind just took it as fact, as always.

RWarehall: I wouldn't be so sure. Even in the States, there have been efforts to ban and censor. Many books are already banned from school libraries in some states. Movies can essentially be forced to censor their content. (Else release in almost no theatres as an adult movie). The PMRC tried to get a Dead Kennedys album banned for pornography using the laws of the state of California. (The PMRC started as 4 politician's wives). The FCC levies serious fines to broadcast TV. Broadcast radio, with many stations now being owned by one company Clearchannel, have already de facto censored certain music by leaving it off the "acceptable" play lists due to content. And none of this precludes actions as occurred in Australia where interest groups petition chain stores to quit carrying a certain product. Already, some museums have been forced not to exhibit certain works because of citizen protest. Or God forbid, some state chooses to take action and ban sales. I seem to recall certain state legislatures which at least discussed banning certain games after school shootings.

I think you should be more careful what you consider to be "tinfoil hat" phenomena.

Edit: And let me add for example...

Jonesy89: I was speaking about the article itself, as it was cited to show that belief that 'they are coming for our games and then they are coming for us' is not paranoid. Given that the article completely fails to mention games being a target in any way, shape, or form of the government, it completely fails to do so.
I realise this post is ancient history but I suppose I should provide assistance where its needed - it seems you either misunderstood or misinterpreted it or you're just trolling. But either way, here it is again for the sake of better understanding and universal harmony. ;-)

avatar
noncompliantgame: If you think it's paranoid to believe "they're coming for your games and then they're coming for you". Think again, Washington is gearing up for The War On Gamers as evidenced by this op-ed hit piece titled "Sexism in cyberspace" - a kind of declaration of war on gamers written by Congresswoman Katherine Clark and published in the Washington political tabloid The Hill.

In this document she declares

"The threats made against women under the guise of the online campaign known as Gamergate are terrifying ..."
avatar
noncompliantgame: In a truly belligerent article with hatemongering rhetoric that might be directlty from the worst tumbr neofem anti-gaming trash she declares, without citing evidence, that gamergate has

"threatened with murder, rape, and all manner of violence. They have even been promised “the deadliest school shooting in American history” if they participate in professional events."
avatar
noncompliantgame: and it goes on

"While Gamergate has garnered headlines, the truth is that every day is a dangerous day for women online..."
avatar
noncompliantgame: and on

"Many sites require that each threat must be individually reported and the time and effort it takes to report each one when you are receiving hundreds or thousands of them is emotionally taxing, time consuming, and expensive..."
avatar
noncompliantgame: As usual some truth can be found from the people in the comments section (it's suprising they let them thru their vetting system!). A few samples.

Julie Shaw: "Exactly as where is the outrage for the female members of GG who are harassed and threatened. When we seek help from Twitter support we are told consistently that said threats are not a violation of their ToS. I fail to see how threats to harm a person are not a violation of their ToS. The fact is that these social networks cherry pick the people they will help.

I do hope that the FBI will investigate and release a report that shows just how many false allegations of online harassment there are. I see far more harassment by those who claim to be against GamerGate than by those who are for GamerGate.

If you are a member of or support GamerGate you are maligned in a manner of ways. You are harassed and blacklisted. I fail to see how this can go unnoticed but alas it does. No I'm pretty sure it's just ignored."
avatar
noncompliantgame:

Allen J Harris: "I am an advocate, and fairly-well respected member, of the #GamerGate movement. I not only welcome federal investigation, I encourage it. The FBI has a much better track record of being unbiased and objective than local law enforcement agencies and I feel they would bring light to the harm being done by both sides.
We need to get rid of the riff raff, from the pro- and the anti- sides, so that we can finally focus on removing media corruption and combating political and social censorship."
avatar
noncompliantgame:

Steve Creampeen: "I stopped reading when you implied GamerGate was about harassing women. Research the topic yourself, or hire some staffers who know how to research before you start grandstanding. GamerGate is very supportive of women, However, GamerGate doesn't support charlatans who make up boogeymen in order for publicity because their actual work isn't good enough to stand on its own merit.

"Just last week, someone threatened to bomb an industry conference if Brianna Wu, a game developer". That is unequivocally false. Those threats were directed *toward* GamerGate supports way back in October 2014, Brianna Wu twisted that around to make it seem like a recent threat directed at her."
avatar
noncompliantgame: But don't just take my word for it. Read the whole thing right here. It's for real. This sh*t is happenning right now!

Vainamoinen: So, would you please guide me to the people 'suspecting' that this thing was from the Canterbury Tales? I intend to go all Miller's Tale on them.
I do remember some window kissing scene from that tale (that is, kissing with a surprise :)) but I don't remember those lines to be there.

OMG so objectophilophobic.

You're right — I was wrong, it is there. Which remains baffling to me, considering that Biscuit doesn't continue in that vein. I'm not sure the word 'backer' is even uttered in the 11 minutes following. It's about artistic creativity, about Obsidian, about creative coherence, about 'historical accuracy', about characters that belong in the game. Strictly off topic stuff... :(

WBGhiro: Jesus Christ, how fucking mad can people get over a vaguely dirty limerick?
Okay, if people start calling that a limerick, I may have that ragefit after all. ;)

As to the 'fucking madness' over the 'joke' — I made a rough comparison of youtube results with the search terms "pillars of eternity transphobic" from the last week, and even varying search terms ("transphobia", "transmisogyny", "misogyny", "poem") I found two relevant videos total.

Entering "pillars of eternity" in the search bar using the autocomplete function doesn't give me any kind of additional search terms that fit the bill here, which might be different in other countries.

Then I searched for another "joke" with the search terms "Tim Schafer sock puppet".
First five autocompletes to "Tim Schafer" give you sock puppet results already.
Jesus H. Macy, how fucking mad can people get over a not even remotely offensive joke?

Because offense is in the eye of the beholder ;) Aesthetic, not ethic, so to speak...

So you see, not everything is political... though everything can be made political.
OFC you know that as you're a master at it :)

Lawl did you just blame the people of the internet for not searching for what you want them to and creating parodies of things you you hate? You have reached a point of utter refinement dear sir.

Anyhow; the sheer fact that you try to compare a fictional and subjective insult (ie; its is proven it is fictional, proven to be part of a game's story and lore, proven not to be true, and is reasonably obvious to all but a hipster few that it is obviously a JOKE that pokes fun at both parties involved EQUALLY unless trans folks are more equal ofc) is strange for coming from a progressive ideology.

Also we see this again. You trying or rather believing your opinions are objective facts. Its your OPINION that the Tim SP Schafer joke is not offensive. Maybe you know; other people find the joke your crying over silly like you find the Tim SP one silly? Have you contemplated that? It opens up a world of possibilities I know; the theory that other people can have thoughts that are different from yours. Its a radical one indeed; but I beg thy to give it more than few seconds of thought.

Lets explain the Tim SP principle. Its kinda similar to SJW philosophy; but is actually true :D. Because logic! And facts! How nice isn't it?
#NYS=composed of females, L,G,B,T,Q, and racial minorities.Saying all of them are one group that behaves in the same way=meh
#PickAnyRelegion=composed of males, females, L,G,B,T,Q and racial minorities. Saying all of them are one group and behave in the same way= OMG PREJUDICE! GET THE THUMBSCREWS!
Hope its all easy and dandy to understand.

Youtube ? Since when has Youtube become the scale to measure social network outrage and Twitter shaming campaigns ?

Also if peoples were asking TS joke to be censored from a game you could have kind of a point; but not really here...

Maybe he prefers not to be a professional twat? Or a dumbledore? Anyhow; searching for people getting offended is best done on anywhere but youtube. I'm just imagining how much an SJW will be triggered by ONE of the #GG supporter videos. No way to block; 100% proof, logical, sensical, exercise of free speech. Its an abomination to everything SJ stands for
great april fools article on GG's historical background

You're right. I was speciseist to judge people. We must LISTEN AND BELIEVE! To dolphins! I see the light finally; after 17 years, I see the light! SJWs belong with their matriarch; on Tumbler, not on rational discussion boards. Be free you beautiful everyones, BE FREE!
if gg is a haressment campaign about chasing women out if the industry it was a collosal failure. If it was about ethics, a succes
