This concept of "The Patriarchy" breaks apart if you spend more than five seconds thinking about it. If there really was a Patriarchy wouldn't you think they would force women to do all the life-threatening and back-breaking jobs? Wouldn't all soldiers be women? Wouldn't companies hire more women because they would have to pay them less? I mean, if there really is a Patriarchal conspiracy out there, then they must be the most incompetent secret organisation ever. The only thing they have accomplished is putting big boobs into video games.

Really, anytime someone mentions The Patriarchy and is not talking about the Orthodox Church, they are talking out of their ass.

And that word is carrying over to Indian newspapers too unfortunately. If anything; the using of that word is proof of exceeding all standards and crossing into ''don't have anything to do with their time''.
A sober and detoxed Jordan Owen breaks down Anita Saarkasian's appearance at the All About Women Festival.

The Orthodox Church?

Elmofongo: ...
The Orthodox Church is governed by people called Patriarchs. There is no Orthodox "Pope" who is ranked highest, instead every church has its own Patriarch.

It is a literal patriarchate that actually exists.

Facsinating.

Personally I think the East Orthodox Church has always been on the sidelines while Catholics and Protestants have been hogging the spotlight.

You don't see that much representaion from the Orthdox Church.

Oy - gOg forums are proud of its tradition of derailing threads and topics. In many situations it is what keeps it alive. Don't like it, skip those posts. But please don't try to control any flow of conversations and policing what people may or may not talk about. And try to at least be a bit civil.

Don't be so fucking hostile man. You want me to say something GamerGate related ok?

I understand why GamerGater put Kotaku. Polygon, Gamasutra, etc. in thier Boycott list, but PC Gamer?

All for one article? And have since never brought up the topic again? Kinda harsh man.

Also I notice that GamerGate happens to be covering 2 things. Ethics in Gaming Journalism and Quelling the extremism of SJWs.

Why not expand the Ethics part beyond just "Gaminf" Journalism? Because other forms of Journalism is also if not more corrupt than those in gaming.

Granted, we do tend to meander a bit around here
yeah, a bit harsh, but is it any worse than how ABC got treated when they did their piece
Expanding ethics: for sure that is an issue but IMHO that will have to wait I don't think GG has the means to fight that one as it is at the moment

noncompliantgame: Meanwhile back in Gamergateland

If you think it's paranoid to believe "they're coming for your games and then they're coming for you". ...
Yeah, I read that article, and not once were games mentioned as something that the government wanted to target. They did talk about targeting death threats and the like, which are already quite illegal and are not considered (well, here in the States, at least) to be protected speech. So yes, it is, at least based on this article, still quite in tin foil hat territory to go on about them going after games, when all they are talking about is cracking down on already illegal shit.

I wouldn't be so sure. Even in the States, there have been efforts to ban and censor. Many books are already banned from school libraries in some states. Movies can essentially be forced to censor their content. (Else release in almost no theatres as an adult movie). The PMRC tried to get a Dead Kennedys album banned for pornography using the laws of the state of California. (The PMRC started as 4 politician's wives). The FCC levies serious fines to broadcast TV. Broadcast radio, with many stations now being owned by one company Clearchannel, have already de facto censored certain music by leaving it off the "acceptable" play lists due to content. And none of this precludes actions as occurred in Australia where interest groups petition chain stores to quit carrying a certain product. Already, some museums have been forced not to exhibit certain works because of citizen protest. Or God forbid, some state chooses to take action and ban sales. I seem to recall certain state legislatures which at least discussed banning certain games after school shootings.

I think you should be more careful what you consider to be "tinfoil hat" phenomena.

Edit: And let me add for example...
