Oh, that's one I've not tried yet. Your review hasn't exactly moved it to the top of my list!

:)

Well, I always wanted to play this game too so you can imagine my disappointment.

I do not care about graphics (which are fine by me), or even 3-4 frame talking animations for characters.

I do care, though, about general guidance. I want the game to have a nice way of telling me what are my current objectives. No, I do not want the game to hold my hand. I am pretty sure that if this game somehow "blocked" me from doing stuff I wasn't supposed to along the way it would be a much better experience. But this "freedom" killed it for me.

Without spoiling anything, I will just say that 30 minutes in I managed to find something for someone, but that action was not necessary until just before the final act. So I kept wondering what I had achieved doing that. And the whole game is full of moments like this.

On the other hand, who knows, maybe you'll like it! Lots of people seem to admire this game.

Sounds like my experience with Reah! I saw screenshots of it in a magazine as a child and it really captured my imagination. Unfortunately it turned out to be a bit of a half-finished game. I think I gave my thoughts earlier in this thread when I'd played it more recently.

I'll definitely give it a go at some point, but I'm not exactly raring to go!

I really hate accidentally solving puzzles in advance, sounds like this game would drive me mad.

Yes, I remember your input. And thanks to you, I had uninstalled it and moved it to the "play only if main backlog is done" list.

Sorry if I ruined that for you :) on the other hand, if you play any other interesting game please share, 2021 is adventure games year for me.

It's the same as you and Reah, I've just placed it on low-priority.

I'm hoping to get a new video card this year so I can finally play Quern (and Firmament whenever it's finished). I can sort of get it to run at the moment, but not with a decent frame rate and that's with the settings turned down.
I was thinking of getting Titanic, solely based on personally knowing one of the people who worked on the game, but I guess I'll pass.

"Now, it is clear that the people who created it have a passion for the whole Titanic story." Except the person I know who worked on it!

On a different note, I recently played Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, which was extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended. After 30 years of adventure games, having played about 150 of them (I know it's not a lot when compared to some people on adventuregamers.com), I am starting to grow tired of inventory based adventure games, and this one had a fresh take in my view.

Currently playing Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis, which is not as enjoyable for me. It also feels more traditional in a sense, even though it's also an investigative adventure.

Crimes and Punishments is the only one I haven't played yet, but from things I've read it's more modern in style.

I played all previous Frogwares series in release order, back to back. I loved them! Pretty lengthy games with tons of exploration. Also, by playing them in this order, I could "see" how Frogwares progressed the series by gradually ironing out annoying stuff and experimenting a bit in each entry.

I would suggest you start from the Silver Earring (my least favorite) up to the Testament. On the other hand, they are not interconnected so you may as well play them in any order. In any case, don't give it up :) I believe that if you like this one, you'll want to play the rest as well.

The game is hated by a lot of people. but I enjoyed it. Probably because I like a lot the spin-o-rama subgenre of adventures with their fails, errors and debatable designs. Nearly Every game of that subgenre failed in similar things. But it is my own gaming perversion. As an audiovisuals teacher of mine said: "It is legit that you like terrible films from time to time". And well. I agreed.

It is the first Frogwares Sherlock Holmes game. It is the shortest, and it is the worst, probably. It has issues to be functional perfectly under Windows 10. But well, you can test it on Steam if you want, It is free in that platform.

Haha, I'd definitely rank it in the top 5 worst adventure games I've played. There were several points when a hot spot that Sherlock had reacted to with a generic "this isn't interesting" response suddenly became the thing you must click to proceed without any reasoning. If he'd either given a specific response saying why it wasn't interesting right now, or had a line to explain why it had suddenly become interesting I could have forgiven the game's other sins.

Well, yes. I am sure that in that specific case the glitch is not a bug, or lazyness, o carelessnes, but a voluntary critical detail to make things more obscure, or difficult than they should be. I have this opinion because those things were relatively common in the past and in that genre.

I played that game at the launching time but not much.
When I discovered it in Steam as a freebie then I Played it much more because I was in my yearly "Fisrt person adventures mood".

If you are a fan of these kind of genre and you are in the mood of playing every not played game in the genre, then I recommend it to you.
Take it as an expert/completionist experiment for Myst like games lovers. Something like a duty :D.
Who knows. Maybe you enjoy it. At least it is free.

Well, it's my favorite genre and that's why I had created this thread :) So that we can discuss these games and propose stuff to each other.

I wonder why it's not on GOG, though.

Well, it's... interesting at the very least. It has some hilariously bad bits, like watching a B-movie.
