Your The Big "Try Linux" GOG Game Giveaway made me try out Linux Mint (first as live system on a flash drive and later as dualboot with Windows 7 on my laptop). Sorry to say that but I will remove Linux Mint soon. I still had trouble to run some of my games and for that reason i only used Windows 7 all the time (I used this setup for about 2 months now and started using Windows only about 6 weeks ago.). It is just so much easier for me. (Install a game and play it and don't search the internet for a solution if I failed again with Wine.) Dualboot is a nice way to try it out but if I don't use it I don't need to keep it.
That said I can recommend Linux Mint for all user who don't play that many games and just want to write things on e.g. Word or who just want to surf in the Internet (even it is not that easy to use Netflixe^^).
Let's see what the future will bring.

Hey, even if you don’t want to mess around with WINE, there’s something like 400 Linux games on GOG only! And if you’re not allergic to DRM, there’s close to ten times that many Linux games on Steam.

On the other side I agree that running non-native games is not always easy, especially when you’re new to the Linux world. That’s why projects like , [url=https://www.gog.com/mix/games_supported_by_debians_gamedatapackager]game-data-packager or my own ./play.it exist: to take care of the boring installation stuff and let you enjoy your games without hassle ;)

It would basically be just me and tinyE here, and we'd probably screw things up so badly that the place turns into a black hole.

There are games that I'm interested in, but I've been using Linux since Vista launch, and it's been almost two year since last time I boot to my windows partition on my home PC. I wouldn't fit for "Try" part in this Giveaway :)

Lots of reading in your links. I will have to make time to read thru and see how it is. Judging by the comments, it doesn't look too difficult. You sound very passionate about Linux so the least any of us can do is at least read your guide and give it a chance. It sounds less problematic than Windows too which is always a plus.

It's not me, but a few of the posts were actually amusing. They made an appearance in the midst of a race to the deadline in our mafia game and a few other places.

Krypsyn had a funny response, and JMich took the opportunity to recruit, though given his tone I'm pretty sure he was aware it was a troll.

My favourite is her GOG mix "my friend nordqvist likes these". Her friend must really love games that begin with A.

I'm on arch and pretty happy about it, but I do understand people wanting stuff to work the way they're used to, hence sticking to their windows / mac os whatever and not bothering to look over the fence.
But what is really, really bothering me is that many governmental institutions like schools, community/city administrations, hospitals and so on use windows. For one it's thrown out tax money (they can do the same things using free linux distros) and more importantly it's so insecure they are practically asking for data theft and security implications.

Stuff like that makes me really angry:
UK government pays Microsoft £5.5m to extend Windows XP support
Data theft in german parliament (it's not that you need better "cyber-defense" but just stop using windows (XP) ;P

You are right. I should rewrite the sentence. The problem for me is to get the games running which I am interested in. Although there are many games for Linux not all games i like to play are running without trouble with Linux Mint. ;)
