JakobFel: Well, we can hardly blame GOG for no new games coming out during it.

Additionally, it's not a strawman. The other incidents of "DRM" are just people slapping the DRM label onto things they don't like. Either that or it has to do with things like Gwent which literally require Galaxy and an internet connection to play only because that's the only way to play the game, period.
Disagree that we can't blame GOG for no new games coming out during it.

If GOG knew that was going to be the case, which they did, then why did they promise in their advertisement for RPG month a steady stream of new RPG releases?

That's a promise that they were unable to deliver on.

And they surely knew they weren't going to deliver on it before they said, so it begs the question, why did they say it then?

They knew it was going to give their customers false hopes and unrealistic expectations, yet they said it anyway.

I was expecting big things to happen during RPG month. in accordance with and because of the exact words GOG used to advertise it: lots of new (at least, new to GOG) RPGs.

I was expecting some games like Dark Souls, Tales of, Persona, Final Fantasy, Atelier Ryza etc, or other games of such calibers, to finally arrive at GOG and make "RPG month" live up to its premise.

But instead, we got jack all, LOL!

As for the assertion that it's "just one game" with DRM: lots of GOG games have had DRM historically, and some still do, and that has been so long before the debacle that began last week.

That's fine, I don't have a problem with disagreeing, I just wish more people were less abrasive about it. Unfortunately, there is a portion of the GOG community that feels the need to cry about anyone that enjoys things they don't and that's not cool with me. I can agree to disagree with you on everything you said there, I hope you can respect me enough as a fellow GOGer to do the same with my opinion on those matters.

Which is exactly why they should have looked at what already has been released / is out for a while now.

For example, between Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Gamedec there were literal days of nothing RPG-related being released at all. Days they could have used to put together another Dungeon Crawler-centric or a "Check out these Ultima-likes joining GOG.COM" bundle or just per-day standalone releases.

Plenty to choose from*:

Aeon of Sands: The Trail
Das Geisterschiff
Der Geisterturm
Der Geisterjaeger
GODS: Lands of Infinity
Haunted Dungeons: Hyakki Castle
The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians
Dungeon of Dragon Knight
The Deep Paths: Labyrinth Of Andokost
7 Mages (Seven Mages)
Dungeons of Legend: Cast Within
Drawngeon: Dungeons of Ink and Paper
Ruzar - The Life Stone
Might and Magic X: Legacy
Moraff series
Mordor: Depths of Dejenol
Slasher's Keep

Realms of Antiquity
Battle for Esturia
UnReal World
Lurking series
Dr. Dungeon's MADMAN!
Phantasie series

Rogue (1980)
Dunjonquest: Temple of Apshai

Dragon Lore 2
Konung 3
Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok
Descent to Undermountain
Asghan the Dragon Slayer
Hunted: The Demon's Forge
Zanzarah The Hidden Portal
Dink Smallwood
Perihelion: The Prophecy
Rest of the Space Rangers series
Dark Earth
Veil of Darkness
Prince of Qin
Seal of Evil
Underworld Ascendant

Also could have consulted the cRPG Book Project for titles that may be worth pursuing and trying to get (re-)released on GoG.
Oh no no no, you're not supposed to enjoy GOG-related things. It's socially unacceptable. Such a positive attitude towards GOG is scandalous and causes a widespread outrage.

But, seriously, you liked it, good for you. Don't listen to all those grumps.

That's fair, but I didn't mind them focusing more on sales for current games. I enjoyed it because I already have too many games that I don't have time to play, and I have even more games I want but have even less time for, so yeah. Just being able to grab some games that I've been meaning to try was kinda nice.

Lol exactly, I think people have gotten a bit spoiled TBH. When relatively minor and small issues cause that much uproar despite the continual downfall of the games industry, you know we've gotten spoiled with the DRM-free greatness haha.

But yeah, thanks for the support, it's always good to hear my fellow gamers being positive or, at the very least, being respectful.

You bet. We're the ones paying to keep GOG's office lights on, not the boycotters. There's a damn good reason why GOG has been expanding and it's because its old customer base isn't enough to pay the bills.
Reading the comments
If gog does start adding slight drm then I'll just go to steam since there is no real difference but for 100% vs 50% drm

Precisely. I'd honestly be willing to bet that a lot of the supposed boycotters still buy from GOG anyways lol
The one thing that made RPG month a bit underwhelming was expecting RPG month to put a big dent in my September budget, only to see more games on sale that were not RPGs than were RPGs. There really are more RPGs on my wish list on sale right now, even after having bought a few yesterday, than were on sale during RPG month.

It makes me hope we have an action game month really soon because if they follow the same trend, there should be lots of RPGs on sale and hardly any action games on sale just so that we can feel the thrilling action of turn-based combat.

That's understandable. Given the sheer variety of RPGs out there, it'd be hard to truly satiate everyone's tastes. Nonetheless, I'm 100% down for themed months going forward!

My dude, do you see the irony when it's emphasized like this? Are the constant jabs really necessary? We get it, you are supposedly a more enlightened customer because you don't voice your complaints like some of the rest of us do. Respect is a two-way street.

Well since not everyone boycotting is doing a total "not spending a cent here ever again" style of boycott, you would be correct. Many of the boycotters have amassed large collections already yet would still buy more IF the direction of things was changed. I can speak for me personally...I used to buy games I would otherwise not truly "need" in order to support developers releasing DRM-free gaming and to support what I thought was the cause of DRM-free gaming itself. This would include also buying the soundtracks, artbooks, etc or the most complete edition. Nowadays, I am only willing to purchase what I consider a "must-have". Silent Hill 4 was. I would like Legacy of Kain but it was not a true must-have. Ditto for Gamedec. Had they released a Skyrim this month, it would have been must-have assuming it was free of online junk. There are a couple upcoming games I want but honestly until GOG offers clarity on their DRM/online connection requirement policy, it is hard for me to feel "safe" buying anything here.

mqstout: Eh, I consider being an adult as actually having valuing mores; placing importance on ethics, morals, and causes you care about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BroscienceEngineer: What's the difference between a 4 year old child throwing a tantrum in the store until their parents cave in and buy their favourite toy and a bunch of grown adult men throwing a tantrum on the forums until GOG caves in and gives them what they're crying about?
The adults aren't going to stop just because GOG throws them a shiny toy.

I should probably have been more specific. There was one point during RPG month where if you went to Store - > On Sale Right Now, you'd see about five pages worth of games on sale. If you filtered that to just RPGs, they'd all fit on one page, meaning that there were more games on sale during RPG month that were not RPGs. Of those non-RPGs, there were a ton of adventure games on sale at the time to the extent that it felt more like adventure game month.

Swissy88: Do you leave posts like this on walmart, thanking them for sales?
Embarrassing.
I actually agree with this sentiment.
Not with the "Embarrassing." part - there's no need for personal insults.

I don't thank companies for doing that what is in their own best interest. On the other hand, I would thank an employee (a real person!), if they provide personal service above and beyond of what their "duty" requires. Or just because the quality of their work / their service is exceptional.

In short: companies aren't individuals, not for me anyway.
