flummoxed: Oh my god, you're insane! ...the good kind of insane, that is :D

Tarnicus: That's up for debate, but it is fun going on these adventures! I sure do appreciate a hot bath and roof over my head after "roughing it" for weeks or months on end. It seems to wake me up and realise that life ain't so bad and calms my inner struggles.
Fun is all that matters. :) And coffee. Coffee matters too :D

flummoxed: Okay, so… I left my university (kinda been forced to do so by my life circumstances). Thinking about becoming a youtuber, game developer, voice actor, writer (yes-yes, all of that, I'm stupid like that :D). Do you think I’m taking a big risk? Have you ever taken similar risks?
avatar
KiNgBrAdLeY7: Pal. Been there, done that. I was FORCED to abandon my university field, due to the actions of certain people against me. They involved me in some things and implicated me into some other ones, putting even other persons in their "endeavors" against me, faqued me up big time and good (public ridicule, constructed evidence and fake accusations involved), and there i was, quitting. I know this story is different to yours; but i feel urged, compelled, to talk to you.

DON'T. Just don't. Quit it. Complete it, take your certificate. It is very bad for you if you lack qualifications of this type. Also, screw the damn paper, if you feel like it... Watch the lessons, learn MOST things you can, there is a ton of useful stuff to learn and later use, in lessons, any lessons.

Youtuber? Forget it. Won't get you far. Voice actor? If you are female, beautiful, and willing to participate in shady "events" before becoming famous and/or accepted into certain media/projects, then yes, might work, and still, not totally certain. Writer, like artist, is a poor investment. Most artists become famous and their work gets value, post mortem, after their lifetime ends. Game developer could work, if you really know how and are skilled into it.

I wish you the very best. But please promise you won't quit because you are going to regret it??
Well, you're a bit late, cause I already quit. :D But I see your point and I never said that I wasn't gonna go back some time in the future. :) (still gonna try the YouTube thing though, you can't stop meeeee :D)

tinyE: I dropped out of college four times. I think that counts as a risk. :D

Alas I miss out on the joy of coffee that so many speak of as I overdoses on instant coffee as a child. I have imbibed one cup of coffee in my lifetime. Coffee leaf tisane(tea) however is delicious and tastes like snow peas and is quite a stimulant. I love my caffeine but have to choose wisely the source it comes from. I'm a chronic tea drinker :P

Well, from my previous sentence, you can see that I'm a chronic coffee drinker :D But tea is cool too :P

yes and no
Quit 3 universities without a degree, but am incredibly talented and even more exceptionally lucky, so it worked out for me.

When people ask me about risks, about quitting and these things and seeing me (most of them envying me) they ask these things a lot...
I tell them the following:

The risk isn't the problem.
The reward isn't the problem.
Not regretting the choice you made is the trick.
Most happy people I met, only regret the risks they didn't take. Almost none regrets the risks they took.
Normally I get paid for such info, but this time it's one is on the house, I'm just deliberately sounding a tad more arrogant as my watermark here...

I always rejected drugs. Never smoked, never had alcohol on my veins, but coffee got into my life and destroyed it.
I have never been the same, I thought my girlfriend was the thing I loved the most, now I'm not so sure, coffee is just too delicious and perfect.

Coffee is love, coffee is life.
Dude college, is like life, a bitchy mistress...but you can always deal or thrash with the end

Coffee is the most underestimated drug available and I keep away from it as far as possible.

MMM... Coffee... Yumm...

My own most underestimated drug, though, is roast pork, especially piglet (young and tasty) and female (has the most tender and naturally flavored meat)!

Too bad i can't keep away from either, especially for far or long...

But coffee is delicious and healthy! (Although both points are debatable :D)
No risk, no reward.

Shortest answer yet, yet very very true :)
Well, can't talk for Hungary, but in the US a Bachelor's degree is pretty much worthless anymore as a way to "get ahead" and earn a great living. Everyone has one. Its like what a HS diploma used to be. Hell, for a job that you could get with a HS diploma 20 years ago, you now need a degree. So from that standpoint I don't think quitting university is a huge risk. You can always go back later.

I have two friends who earn more money than me and neither of them went to college. One was incredible lucky and was giving a opportunity out of the blue - not typical. The other got into a trade - heating & air conditioning.

Meanwhile I decided to get a degree. I now have a ton of student loan debt, a job I'm not fond of in an industry I have no interest in.

My point - go for it. I'm going to be frank, the odds are not in your favor for the fields you mentioned. For every person who has made youtube their primary income source, there are tens of thousands who have tried and failed. But get a job to at least cover your living costs, preferably one where you won't be working overtime, work on those things you want to do and see what happens.

And if you do ever go back to college, DO NOT take a social science or other liberal arts type major. Even if you don't like it or have no interest, pick something that will get you in a field that is actually in demand and pays well. I decided to major in subjects I was interested in, not seeing that they are poor choices for the real world job market.
