CharlesGrey: "Steam's Community VS. GOG's community"

ROUND 1 ... FIGHT!
avatar
darthspudius: lol is it a contest? Their community is truly fucking awful.
It's a fight to the death, obviously!

They have far greater numbers, but the average GOG user is older and tougher. I think most of us can take on about a dozen fat CoD kids.

It would play out kind of like a highly retarded version of "300".

Really, I am imagining pale, long haired old gits arguing over the pizza and deep heat vs a million illiterate brats, or is that being generationist?

Anyway, its a forgone conclusion as we can just pull the internet cable and they have nothing

tessorb: Hey everyone,
So I was on Steam the other day (I know, blasphemy), and I was shocked at how immature everyone on steam is. Everything from the reviews to the forums and even many of the developers (shower with your dad simulator? Come on.) What is the deal with Steam community? Why is it so bad?
Now I'm not saying everyone on gog is mature and isn't a total perv, just glance at the General Discussion board, but most of us on here are just here to talk about games and things related to the games. I hope I'm making sense. So, I'm posting this here so that we can all discuss this topic. Discuss!
well its a coincedence, i did not read this topic and i replied in

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/known_scammers_mach_two/page7

about the fact that downrepping or dekarming (vote down 1 karma a day) is childish.
i also said that steam community is childish

here a quote from my post:

I have steam account cause all the people talked about it, i got curious and created one, well that community has many parts of the 'forum' that look and read so childish, its like a digital comic.
Sometime it looks as if steam exists of 75% minors, those from 13 -16 and loads from <13 who are 'governed' by their parents. ...
seriously i been around a while and i think and also believe that minus the few dumb topics we might have like getting angry about pinatas and more nonsense,
GoG community is still the most mature community compared to steam , the other sites (like GG)
i also think that the GoG site looks more pro then that black steam thing and all that other white rest of gamesites.
steam is so dark i need to turn up the brightness and the complet white sites black text make me turn the brightness down.

I've had about as much problem with this community as I have with steam. You'll get nuttjobs and idiots wherever you go. Steam has a MUCH larger population, so of course the proportions will be MUCH larger as well.

old gits have special technique we just bore them to death while we play our 60s-80s songs this will give us a superdeluxe boost

steam needs online:
if we pull the cable these steamers are ... offline unless they played in offline mode :D
so thats loads of energy units of the bar

if we manage to make it look like those kiddies didn't do their homework they get a computer arrest, then they wont be able to be online, so another 10-20% will go down of the energybar of steam

we old farts decide when and how long we are online and play or play offline on our pc, those kids have rules
so another percentage of the steam energybar

we can use our false teeth to scare the youngest steamers away, or hypnothise them with our thick glasses , that will teach them.

true, that small community i modded long time ago, had only few members (100 or so) so only 20 were mad as a hatter :D

All I'll say is that regardless of how some users can be, both communities have very helpful individuals that smooth out some difficult situations in certain games.
I was sorta with ya right up til the remark about Shower with Your Dad Simulator.

Then ya lost me.
Steam community is OK, and it depends on gamers of a specific game from Steam library. For example, TF2 attracts different types of gamers; from kids to older gamers. So you see many thing is TF2 community (forum). Just like those team/chat messages in TF2 itself.

Grargar: I guess we "need" a Steam vs. GOG thread once in a while...
Yeah, like once or twice a day would be nice.
I'll take the bait.

Steam fosters the community it has and maintains it as it is by making the absolute worst people it can find in that community its moderators. That's why it is. Same with the games. Games that could, should and have in the past been refused can waddle straight through Steam's now wide open doors.

Reaping what you sow.
low rated
Steam and Gog both suck, the only difference is one has moderators and the other has pretend wannabe moderators.

Who's an old gir? I am watching metaloaf in '78. Rocking!

As to the other, well everyone is a nut job to someone, much like you will find someone offended by anything if you look hard enough. Don't be swayed by common denominator mass media.
“Nothing has done more to make us dumber or meaner than the anonymity of the Internet.” - Aaron Sorkin

This is not unique to any one place or "community." This is everywhere. On a bright note you also find nice people in the jungle too. I'm not buying that we find more or less of them in any one place vs another.

Honestly, there's some pretty bad stuff in the Gog forums too, take this thread for example.
