Mrstarker: Personally, I'd rather have people say thank you and really mean it than have them say it as a formality.
Pretty much.Anyone can type in two words but to do that sincerely is another thing.

So, in your case if you enter a GA a do not post "thank you" means you're not posting it because you don't mean it or what???

edit: What you said makes perfect sense from GA creator point of view, but not so if you're GA entrant.

And that's exactly why some of us not bother anymore to make a giveaway for a group who has people that don't have 5 seconds to spare to say thanks... Anyway, usually is the same people who doesn't show in the forums and only entered early in the group when it didn't have much rules, or only reached 40 in REP to enter the group and then gone forever.

"Hey! A free game! F*ck the gifter and GOG, I only want the f*ucking free game!"... (--_--)

Personally, I agree with Momo, if someone is making a giveaway for a group where is supposed to have the same interests and the members know each other, then why leaving any message or saying thanks when they enter is such a burden?

Well, if it then such a burden, then don't enter. Period.

bowtux: Many thanks ;)

I sadly ran out of money in December, due to.. well.. December, so I couldn't buy as much stuff during the sale as I wanted to. It's been too long since I made a GA here:
BIT.TRIP.FATE ($50cv)
Sorapak win, Sorapak receive. All good.

Crap.. DNHgJn1BT7Xv7URNdGhS2fmdtUfWg2YJok to eDOGEcateme if you feel it necessary.

I made some giveaways on sg for gog here too.Pretty much almost anyone who entered said thanks but you know if a winner was someone who didnt said anything I really woudn't feel anything different. If he's happy with what he won then it's all good I think.

In my experience, fewer restrictions (on SG) means a lower rate of comments on GAs. I usually contact the winner though, which tends to lead to a somewhat polite conversation.
I think that as a gifter, you have the right to request a reroll if you feel that the randomly picked winner doesn't meet your personal requirements of participation, commenting, contributing etc.
To those of you going on about placing a thanks in the comments - yes, in a specific group such as this it should be basic manners, but theres no way to enforce it. If you don't like it, then I suggest making private GAs and either sending the URL to those you would care to see enter or even posting that theres a GA for the game you've put up and asking for response via reply here.

You may also all want to rewind the thread to about july / august of last year and read the same arguements then, rather than repeating them now.

Only if you ask SG support for approval on custom rules (custom rules such as "if you don't comment 'I like bananas' I'll reroll") beforehand. And this only goes for private/group giveaways.

I don't remember if having these as "group rules" would also work. I remember seeing some rerolls being denied back when we tried having more strict group rules.

I don't think it's nice to speculate on people's motivations. Some people may feel that a thank you in a comment section may be too impersonal. It's also possible that they entered by accident and didn't even notice that they had clicked the enter button. Or maybe they meant to type thank you, but then closed the tab accidentally and then forgot.

And yes, I was speaking from a GA creator point of view, not from an entrant point of view. I don't even read comment sections. If you really want to thank me, then play the game. I'm not bothered at all by the lack of thanks. What really irks me is when people don't even redeem their GOG gifts.
