I'm very glad to see more people enjoying the movie. I've only been to see it once so far and I'm not sure if I'll go again, but I'll definately get the DVD when it hits the shelves and probably will rewatch all three films. It's a pity, but with the ticket prices so high I rarely go to see the same thing twice now. Makes much more sense to get the DVD to watch it whenever I like.

I do wonder how important home video (DVD, streaming, whatever) is now compared to box office. I t would seem like nowadays it should be really important, with watching things at home being more convenient than ever, but I rarely see it mentioned when a movie's success/failure is discussed.

I'm pleasantly surprised at Beyond. I liked it, but it wasn't a great Star Trek film, unless you ignore the originals. I think the trend of movies is all action and little contemplation/cerebral and this tends to be more of a roller coaster ride than what used to pass as movies some time before.

Yet despite the lack of depth, Star Trek Beyond had some great nostalgia going for it--especially with the Spock/McCoy interaction. At times, I felt like Karl Urban was channeling DeForest Kelley, though Spock grinning from ear-to-ear brought me back into reality (i.e. "Dammit Jim, it's a reboot, not an original!)

The "cameos" of Leonard Nimoy and the cast of TOS were endearing, and even watching Anton Yelchin's final Trek movie performance, I couldn't help but feel a bit of a pang as if he were a long-standing member of the Trek family.

I think much of the fighting scenes could have been better had they not been too close, and of course there were some obvious plot holes. I mean, you could have just used the swarm to poke holes into the Yorktown Starbase and let the vacuum of space do the rest.

It was also nice to see one or two Star Trek TNG sounds make it into the effects as well as the cool retro green displays featured in the USS Franklin.

I only hope that the next movie takes advantage of there being a "new" enterprise to take the time to redesign the bridge. I absolutely hated all the lens flares and super white & bright tone of the first reboot.

Its ok. So I can agree to the topic (I like STB; IMO it has the certain "Trek Feeling" I missed in the two previous ones) while you get the flame for necroing :P
