Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

petdevils: Hi,

I'm very new to gog and buying digital copies of games and i'm finding this a little confusing....

So it's just a wait and see what pops up kind of deal?

Only one game on offer at any time and that has to sell out before they move to the next one randomly?

Is that about it?

What if one game doesn't sell out - does it stop cycling through?

BTW - When games are on sale and they list the discounted price - is there someway to tell what the regular full price was/will be again also?

Cheers

pet
This is what's called a Flash Sale. They are more common on other sites, this is actually the first one I've seen GOG do. They are currently shuffling through 102 titles, for a full list see: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/special_promo_fall_insomnia_promo/post3076 In the bottom right of the box that shows the deal you will also see how much you save. So for instance Spellforce says "only $2.49, you save $7.50" which puts its standard price at $9.99. Each one is up until it sells out, then a new one is up. After a bit they randomly repeat, although not in the same order.

GOG is pretty regular in its releases and sales. Every week on Tuesday and Thursday new games will be released. Every week there are also two sales, a Gem Promo which is a singular game, and another sale which is generally multiple games often of a similar theme or by the same publisher (I don't quite remember what days these occur on. Sorry.) GOG sales generally are static, in that they are a specific group of titles that are on sale for a specific length of time (2-3 days) for a specific discount (50-80% off is common.)

Welcome to GOG by the way!

graspee: This gog sale is evil. I thought steam's flash sales were bad but this takes it up to a whole new level. I'm tired and want to go to bed but instead I'm slumped in front of my pc trying to stay awake, hoping the games on my wishlist come up...
We are doomed.
low rated
Well with all of your Europeans going to bed, it will give us U.S. guys more of a chance to get the freebies.. oh wait, no it won't.

You guys just keep your PC on and have scrip-bots still sniping. You whores >:[

nijuu: Discount + what u save = original price. They are repeating i suspect due to different timezones...so everyone gets a fair chance

overread: Repeats will also be because GOG has likely signed only so many games per type for the sale with the owners (might be the case for some, others might be totally without limits). So they break the total up into smaller groupings for the duration of the promotional period; but the overall total when reached will end the scheme.

I suspect that a combination of the limited availability and the steep discount will keep the sale going for quite some time before it hits a game that takes a significant amount of time to shift - though if it goes on for a day or two there will be spikes in sales as many people all end up asleep or at work at hte same time .
Your probably right. But. I hope they took the global interest in this sale ....and hope they manage to extend it so bulk of their customer has a fair chance to buy into the sale regardless. I actually think it will be less than 48 hours..... weekend sales actually slow from what ive read....(for many sites...)
The last 50 are selling slow...

They always do.

mondo84: One small thing I noticed is that despite Tales of Monkey Island being 85% off, GOG advertised the promo as games up to 80% off so as not to mislead more than one game being 85% off.

Completely irrelevant observation.
Well... Actually games are up to 100% off, as there were many freebies already :))

Russian bots are more likely. I tend to see russia as the biggest hacking community.
