Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

petdevils: I'm very new to gog and buying digital copies of games and i'm finding this a little confusing....
I think this is more of a way to stir a little excitement in waiting for the next game to come around. Interesting, but annoying when I wanted to buy something and it sold out instantly (like the free games...). But the amount of time waiting for it is personally wearing me down.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, normally all the games are in a list and you get 3+ days to select and buy them all as a single payment rather than a race.
It feels like this game is taking longer than it should.
This gog sale is evil. I thought steam's flash sales were bad but this takes it up to a whole new level. I'm tired and want to go to bed but instead I'm slumped in front of my pc trying to stay awake, hoping the games on my wishlist come up...

At least they got the name right. It's 1:55 here and I'm still awake.

petdevils: Hi,

I'm very new to gog and buying digital copies of games and i'm finding this a little confusing....

So it's just a wait and see what pops up kind of deal?

Only one game on offer at any time and that has to sell out before they move to the next one randomly?

Is that about it?

What if one game doesn't sell out - does it stop cycling through?

BTW - When games are on sale and they list the discounted price - is there someway to tell what the regular full price was/will be again also?

Cheers

pbnjoe: Welcome to GOG :D this is probably the worst sale to join us in as your first in terms of confusion. To answer your first four questions: yes. Last one, go to the game's page :D search it in the top right by the magnifying glass and click the game when it comes up.

Again, welcome :)
thank you

nijuu: Discount + what u save = original price. They are repeating i suspect due to different timezones...so everyone gets a fair chance
Repeats will also be because GOG has likely signed only so many games per type for the sale with the owners (might be the case for some, others might be totally without limits). So they break the total up into smaller groupings for the duration of the promotional period; but the overall total when reached will end the scheme.

I suspect that a combination of the limited availability and the steep discount will keep the sale going for quite some time before it hits a game that takes a significant amount of time to shift - though if it goes on for a day or two there will be spikes in sales as many people all end up asleep or at work at hte same time .

Normaly you can select from a theme package each weekend. And can get holiday sales.

This form of sale is new.

zeffyr: Hm, is there any chance that GOG's version will be improved to Enhanced one?
avatar
Uzur9: Hmm I dont see why they coulnd't put it on here. I doubt it though sadly.
BG is one of the biggest sellers along with BG2. Both work fine and have heaps of mods.
BGEE isnt that great - its aimed at the tablet market. As will BGEE2

Even if they did put the Enhanced Edition on here, it wouldn't be given as an 'upgrade' to the original. It's much more expensive and the money would have to be funneled elsewhere (different copyrights)

I say call it a night and go to bed. I honestly don't know what's all in today's deal (or freebies) and would prefer the normal nice simple list or select 3+ (or 5+) deals they usually have. Make all my decisions in 15 minutes or less.

Same here. I'm about ready to buy one of the games on my wishlist at full price and call it a night..:)

I take it as a good sign, less people on, and if there is a freebie in there...

Well, unless the talk about bots is true.

There's probably 5 or so bots, but almost definitely not 40
