Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

DalamarNL: Has there been any comment from the gog team about this sale somewhere in this thread? I'm wondering how they have experienced all of this. Thought things would sell faster, slower, etc.
avatar
bradelli: Ultima vii is amazing, cant believe I never got into it before
avatar
DalamarNL: Never tried it to be honest, but I am getting curious.
I highly recommend it. I started by reading the first 18 pages of the manual which is a story. Then in the game, rather than skipping through dialogue, reading everything just made it so much more interesting. You can interact with almost any object in the game. I can't imagine how complex it must have been to program. Fantastic game
I will long remember my WTF reaction and confused comments in this thread when the first freebie appeared for a split second :)
This sale was adorable.

Anyway, Torchlight code for anyone who missed it:

Put it on my wishlist, I'll bet we'll see another sale at some point :)

howardc007: I just woke up, did I miss the $99,999.99 Jack Keane 2?
Yes, sorry. But you can trade for it maybe.
Check out what I found on sale elsewhere today... clearly wasn't enough of this recently :p

That gave me a chuckle, and a peculiar sense of nostalgia...

And it's even more expensive than it was here. Too bad it doesn't have a limited amount.
Since we're all doing it, here is what I got in chronological order:

- Anvil of Dawn - Loved it when I played it. Still have the disc with my own, hand drawn cover (I got it out of a magazine)
- Book of Unwritten Tales - It wasn't a Keaner when I got it and I'm a sucker for Adventure games. The price was just too good.
- Icewind Dale - I got all D&D games except for the IWDs since they're more action-oriented. But at that price...
- Postal - Freebie get!
- Neverwinter Nights Diamond - Was on the fence here. Said I'd pick it up if it came up before my other goals.
- Rogue Legacy - Usually I'm not a fan of rogue likes, but this one looked really fun and, thankfully, it really is!
- Reus - I like god games, although this one is more of a puzzle game, but it's still quite fun.
- Total Annihilation Commander Pack - Second Freebie get!
- Neverwinter Nights 2 - Since I already got the first one during the sale and everyone is drooling over the mods, I gave it a shot.
- Tales of Monkey Island - I already got those on the Telltale website, but as a long time MI fan I loved these and I wanted them at a more accessible place. 5 bucks was ok.
- Chaos Engine - A very friendly gift from mbunkin. I played the original and really liked it, but I was somehow on the fence getting this one. Not really sure why, though.
- Nexus - This was more on impulse, with impulse meaning that I didn't get it in the first and second round but everyone was talking about it. So I researched it a bit and it sounded like something I'd really like. Of course, then Iw waited for hours for it to reappear.
- Inquisitor - Third Freebie get!
- I have no mouth and I must scream - On my list since the beginning but I always missed it. Couldn't finish it back in the day since the german version is censored (they cut out a whole character... yeah, that will probably have no impact at all...).

I got some games as gifts and gifted Lucius and System Shock 2 in this thread. Still have Planescape: Torment and Jade Empire, want to trade one of them, so I can gift the other.

As I'm thinking about it, the sale was an interesting experience, however I got no free games and most of the games I might have wanted to get slipped by while I either wasn't aware of the sale (during the first cycle) or slipped by because I couldn't be here 24/7. The free games were way too few and went by way too fast, once or twice I think I almost got a copy only to get 'we are very popular right now' pages as the whole site was being spammed trying to get free copies of a few measly games.

Oh yes, and that JavaScript used for the status of the games was totally eating all the spare cycles on my computer, I donate my spare cycles to Folding so having so much of my computer seeming to slow to a crawl for no reason was bad.

All in all, a regular sale would have been better, and '1 random free game with 5 games purchases' would have been better, although if it were like the Witcher and a free game per order would have been nice too.

Well let's list off what I did get while the sale was going on. Some of these games mind you I already have for consoles, or owned already.

The Witcher 2
Brutal Ledgend
Tomb Raider (1 + 2 + 3)
Septerra Core

Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams
King's Bounty (Crossroads)
PsychoNaughts
NWN 1 (Gift)

Total?: $62.67
