Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Gotta hand it to GOG, they know their customer base.
All this hanging around on GoG when I'm supposed to be working has inspired me to download and try some of my massive backlog. First up was Unreal Tournament GOTY. I played the demo once, looooong ago, but I didn't have a good comp of my own, and the computer lab only had Quake II. Even alone against bots and the sound off, holy HELL this game is fun! It's a good thing I didn't have it back in the day, or I'd never have made it through undergrad!!

Minmataro: I didn't mean to start a controller vs Mouse debate... imo its just easier to play a shooter with a mouse. i mean all you are really doing with a FPS is laying a mouse pointer on a enemy and clicking. Once you adapt to that its almost like cheating.

However if you really love controllers, who am i to say otherwise? i didnt mean to start anything was just trying to be helpful.
No worries. I get what you are saying. It's all good brother.

smoother: Expeditions: Keanistador
10 copies sold in 5 Minutes. It's too slow, I can't wait another 1 or 2 hour(s).
bye for now!

Coelocanth: Honestly, even though it's slow, I think it's selling fairly well all things considered.
I've been rather impressed by its sales speed. I expected Sword of the Stars: The Pit to sell a good bit faster than Expeditions: Conquistador, but it's been very much the opposite. Clearly I've underestimated the lure of turn-based strategy. ^_^

dsross: Ok bored again. I have a copy of Just Cause 1 on Steam for someone.

rookie1: Pick me
Sorry, other guy was first.

iLiVeInAbOx: Ahahaha omg proxy mines! Playing that game drunk was also a lot of fun. My friends tried to gang up on my in an FFA.. after a while I noticed they had all put their controllers down :)

AndyDivine79: My roommate and I hung a sheet from the ceiling splitting the screen. Of course you had to play 3 player and face the third facing the wall. My favorite was pistols in the basement. 4 players with proximity mines was chaos.
I have fond memories of playing outlaws from Lucasarts in LAN. It was so good, because you had no autoreloead. weapons that were really different from each other, some great custom maps, western music, and the "Catch the fool with the chicken" mode.

From what I've seen in this sale, the time of the day a game is presented makes a difference on how strong it sells. I'm thinking that different time zones have different gaming tastes.

Unreal Tourney is such a good game. I still have the first one and bust it out every so often :)

They should´ve released the 360 version on PC as well, the Xbox version was inferior to that version and even when you play JC on the highest setting is still doesn´t look quite as good as the 360 version.

RichterSnipes: I remember having to use a program called GlovePIE to best configure a Wiimote for PC use. The actual program worked well, it was just awfully awkward to use the controller in a standard computer setup.

It's even worse if you use a Classic Controller connected to it. Then you have to deal with the remote weighing down the controller and making more intense gameplay feel unruly.
avatar
Knofbath: The classic controller was just supposed to use the Wiimote as a wireless adapter I thought.
It does, but it has to be plugged into the wiimote to do that, just like the standard (non wireless) nunchuk. So your controller kind of has a heavy tail attached.
