Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

Kaitu: Hahaha! If I don't include my free games I was given with my first purchase, I'm up 2000% now. (Bought WAY more than I planned to.) But at $1.50-4 per game, how can you go wrong???
avatar
foxworks: My intended budget, oh $20. Those darn $1.49 purchases do add up!
I dropped at least $40-50 here (still have a bunch of codes I'm hoping to get back the cost of or trade once all is said and done but still)... :-p

CorranHorn: The problem with virtualization is that you can´t use a graphics cards full capacity (at least not if you are using VirtualBox) but otherwise it should work. Another way of doing it is doing a dual boot but that could be problematic since Windows 98 (to my knowledge at least) overwrites the boot.ini file so it may need a little reading to solve it.

I don´t own the first games, I do own Ravenshield and it´s a really good game even today, I would recommend getting Swat 4 and I´ve heard a lot about Swat 3 (must get that one when I can afford it=)).

kc7wzl: What I do is I have 2 different Hard Drive... win 7 lives on one... the other has dual boot with win 98 and linux mint... then I just select witch HD I want to boot off of at that time... the nice thing about my computer is the bios has "f12" for boot device selection..
You have a computer that can run both Windows 7 and Windows 98? I didn't think there was hardware (sound card, video card, network adapter, motherboard chipsets etc...) with drivers for both.

foxworks: Increasing my GOG collection by about 300%+
I only about doubled it but I once got the complete Infinity bundle which was insanely cheap, too. So I already had many games in my collection by that alone and also there were many games I would otherwise have bought that I already owned (NWN, BG, IWD ...).

arcusc: Yes, I'm giving GOG the rest of the evening, but I'm not spending another night online, before going to sleep for 20 minutes at a time at 6 am... Getting too old for this. :p
avatar
trustymutsi: Yeah, my strategy had been: Go to bed at 2am, wake up every 15-20 minutes, or 30min - 1 hour (depending on the game), check the sale, repeat. Had to sleep on the couch so I didn't wake the wife.

Amazingly, last night I decided "Screw this, I'm going to bed. I just wish I could wake up on command in the middle of the night," and I woke up at 4am without an alarm to check the site.

Then I woke up this morning JUST in time to get NWN 1 :)
Impressive! Let's just say I need to change the alarm sound on my phone, otherwise from now on I'll always wake up thinking I'm about to buy yet another discounted game.

Actually 4 games.

I got it earlier in the round. It's moving well.

howardc007: This whole experience could be made into a point-and-click adventure. A story about a gamer, trying to get a copy of Jack Keane 2: The Fire Within, keeping missing the sale due to obstacles like work, sleep, hunger, etc.

arcusc: You're basically describing The Sims. :p
EA, there you go, a new expansion for the next installment of The Sims! :)
Yeah set a budget of 100 bucks.
still around 30-40 bucks under that.

Good times.

I started at $10, but it has worked it's way up to 25 when this is all said and done.

I wept when I added up it all up yesterday. But I'll live and smile when I start to download and play these classic gems.

Ah so its a collection.

THat makes sense honestly im not that into adventure games. Mostly just play the Wadjet eye games.
Another site feature I'm tempted to suggest is an official gift code trading platform ;)

I for example would like to exchange my extra copy of Witcher 2 for Nexus and Aquanox 2. No idea how I'm going to reach that exact person that is interested in this exchange *and* will still have leftover codes for these two games.
So now that we are getting to the end, what is left that people are waiting for? I myself want Jade Empire and King of Dragon Pass but I could care less about the rest. It seems as though most are waiting for JE, Brutal Legend, or the Thief games, but I haven't heard many clamoring for the rest.
