Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Grabberz: I regret I did not buy 'I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM'

I had the change but did click the Buy button - damn.
Game regret, the worst regret.

skeletonbow: I have all the Rainbow Six games but want to play them from the first onward and can't for the life of me get either of the first two games to work on a modern operating system. They're all boxed versions. I never scoured the web exhaustively to see if anyone has any solutions mind you, but if anyone knows how to get them to work and steered me in the right direction that'd be awesome too. :) Rogue Spear was the first TCS game I ever played and it blew my mind, although that was on Windows 98SE a zillion years ago. I should perhaps install 98SE into a virtual machine and see if the Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear games would work in that environment, although it's probably next to impossible to get all the updates and stuff for Windows 98SE to function properly nowadays.

CorranHorn: The problem with virtualization is that you can´t use a graphics cards full capacity (at least not if you are using VirtualBox) but otherwise it should work. Another way of doing it is doing a dual boot but that could be problematic since Windows 98 (to my knowledge at least) overwrites the boot.ini file so it may need a little reading to solve it.

I don´t own the first games, I do own Ravenshield and it´s a really good game even today, I would recommend getting Swat 4 and I´ve heard a lot about Swat 3 (must get that one when I can afford it=)).
What I do is I have 2 different Hard Drive... win 7 lives on one... the other has dual boot with win 98 and linux mint... then I just select witch HD I want to boot off of at that time... the nice thing about my computer is the bios has "f12" for boot device selection..

Hahaha! If I don't include my free games I was given with my first purchase, I'm up 2000% now. (Bought WAY more than I planned to.) But at $1.50-4 per game, how can you go wrong???
Looking for a Thief3, Theme Hospital or Spellforce code for a friend, if you have one to spare, please send me a message.

arcusc: Yes, I'm giving GOG the rest of the evening, but I'm not spending another night online, before going to sleep for 20 minutes at a time at 6 am... Getting too old for this. :p
Yeah, my strategy had been: Go to bed at 2am, wake up every 15-20 minutes, or 30min - 1 hour (depending on the game), check the sale, repeat. Had to sleep on the couch so I didn't wake the wife.

Amazingly, last night I decided "Screw this, I'm going to bed. I just wish I could wake up on command in the middle of the night," and I woke up at 4am without an alarm to check the site.

Then I woke up this morning JUST in time to get NWN 1 :)

My intended budget, oh $20. Those darn $1.49 purchases do add up!
Can someone please tell me what games left?

KMJX: Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings $5.99
504.... OK, WHAT WAS THE FREEBIE?
Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller $10.09
avatar
IanM: was there one? looked like it just transitioned from TW2 directly to C:AERT?
Well since I got gateway timeout errors, I assumedd there was a freebie.
The only one who managed to crash the forums without a freebie before him was JACK KEANE with his overwhelming 25 copies in the beginning of the third round.
avatar
howardc007: This whole experience could be made into a point-and-click adventure. A story about a gamer, trying to get a copy of Jack Keane 2: The Fire Within, keeping missing the sale due to obstacles like work, sleep, hunger, etc.
avatar
MaximumBunny: You do know that Keane sale durations are measured in turtle years, right?
I think that's the joke. The twist ending is a reveal of everything we have played through but last one hour being imagination of the player filling in his memory after taking a brain bleach drug for reasons implied, but not shown directly.
avatar
Quantomas: Do not be sad if your favourite game appears to sell slow. 400 copies in an hour equals 10K per day or 300K per month! The Witcher 2 would be about 700K per month, which would be considered a big success this long after release.
avatar
CorranHorn: Witcher 2 has been a huge success for CD Project RED, many already owns it, I would´ve bought it If I could afford it=).
It's a very recent game as well. Quick sellers are mostly old classics many people is nostalgic about but don't own a copy of at the moment or even didn't play at all because too young.

I read Dio for a moment. Oh well...

Shendue: JRPG.... They are very different from WRPG games. If you like WRPGs you may even hate them.
Hate is a strong word, but I could never got on with the random battles in JRPGs I tried. P:T, BGII et al I can happily play for weeks at a time.

I'm all for offbeat Japanese style though, Ganbare Goemon 5 / Mystical Ninja is one of my favourites :)

RudyLis: Can you remember which games were instant buy for you, and those were complitely unknown to you, not from people you know, not from series you like - completely new name? I couldn't remember, so I have to dig through receipts. Game's name - Inquisitor (reminds me
Some that come to mind for me were Warcraft III, Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth and Battle for Middle Earth II. I didn't even know the latter two existed and found them in the store and just had to have them and they turned out to be mind blowing awesome. Then there was Ghost Recon, GRAW and GRAW2 and the Splinter Cell games also and I enjoyed all of those totally. Half Life and Half Life 2 are way up there too.

avatar
RudyLis: I suppose there are some questions over this "remake":
- How much they'll charge for it.
- Mandatory "always on" battle.net requirement. For our own convinience, safety, and server-side calculations, of course. :)
- Auction houses.
- PS3/4 version, which is suprisingly better with gamepad.
My understanding is they're simply having the Warcraft 1/2/3 games ported to current Windows and made to run well and possibly including the expansion packs as well. Not much has been said though. It's more of an update/port/refresh than a remake.
