Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Will someone please just mop up this puddle?
I panicked and bought Puddle. Now I have exactly two shelves of new games out of this sale. Things are neat and tidy that way.

This time I'm really done.

GhostwriterDoF: Has anyone here actually played the Jack Keane games?
avatar
axelkothe: I played both. I actually own two physical copies of Jack Keane 2, the regular german box as well as the collector's edition.

They are good adventure games, nothing special, but if you like the genre, they are worth checking out. At least in german, I don't know how good the translation is...
Now that's what I was waiting for. Someone who actually played the game and had a real experience with it. Thank you sir, +1 for you!

dedoporno: Oh, I don't like it so much, it's just not that bad of a game. I'm sure many people worked hard for it and just want to give them at least some credit for it. Don't get me wrong. I'm OK with using it as a byword for slow-selling and in-the-way offer, because that it was. I just don't think it is sensible to judge it as a game without even trying it.

zlep: Not that we ever will, but I'd love to know exactly the effect this has on Jack Keane's future sales. The name is now very well known among a lot of people who would never have heard of the title. Many will appreciate that game quality wasn't the sole influencer of sales speed, so even as they use the "Jack Keane meme" they're not really holding it against the series. They're now potential future buyers. Others *will* see it as an indicator that Jack Keane 2 is the worst game in the world, up there with Big Rigs. Not only will they not buy; they may spread that idea to potential buyers, harming sales.

I'd like to think that the sales benefits from the former group will outweigh the latter. Tales of the Keaning have been the source of much entertainment over the last few days, and a sanity saver amid the sleep-deprivation. It would be sad to see Jack Keane suffer from that community service.
The negative sentiments toward the game almost all have nothing to do with the game itself, rather how it's placing in the sale slowed down the progression of the sale. That's not going to have any effect whatsoever on people who want to buy the game int he future or are considering it. However, with all the talk it caused, and spread onto the Internet in blogs and minor news sites and gaming sites, it raised awareness that the game even existed and drew the game a huge amount of publicity. Even if some of it is negative publicity, all publicity is publicity and the result is that it is highly likely the game will sell more copies not just on GOG, but on Steam and everywhere because lots more people found out it existed. That's my hypothesis anyway.

I joked about it myself, and after looking at the trailers and reviews I wouldn't mind getting the games some day but at the right price for me which personally is < $5. :)

gamefood: O.M.G. ... Not ask for the offspring they both would produce... O.O
It would be something that eternally slumbers and wakes at the same time!

Stop trying to fool yourself.

deekaan: Thank you. Am I the only one who is a little saddened by the fact that this sale is almost over? I had such a good time here on the forums, and staying awake reading all the funny comments was really nice for a change.
The Keaning will always stay with us. The Keaning is eternal.

don2712: Thinking of picking up Brutal Legend but, I understand part of it is rts which I am crap at, anyone played this game like to comment or advise me?
avatar
GhostwriterDoF: I watched someone play it, and it didn't seem to me to be an RTS in the traditional sense, you should watch a gameplay video to see for yourself.
It is not RTS (you mean real-time strategy, right?). It's more of a action adventure. I got it from a Humblebundle, but still haven't got the chance to play it more than 30 minutes.
