Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

techknight1337: I'm glad it stalled. I missed it once already. I'm glad I got a chance to pick it up this time.

SpiderFighter: Nice catch...congrats!! The only one on my list I've managed to pick up was Aquanox. I grabbed Startopia too, just because it looked interesting.

What sets Privateer apart from the rest of the franchise? I have 3 and 4...I assumed it was just another WC game, but with earlier graphics?
Privateer is more like X or Freelancer. Less fly Mission 1-25 and talk to teammates in between and more sandboxy.

Alien8n: How's this for an idea for future promos?

Take 100 games (or more, we like more)

Set a sale volume that you want to hit per game.

Display the games one at a time until either they sell out or 15 minutes has passed. If they haven't sold out then they get added back to the sale at the end of the queue. Mix with freebies and go. To ensure some longevity where popular games are concerned you can still split them into groups so the ones that sell out within 15 minutes get repeated again upto their max quantity (so Neverwinter Nights would still get 3 sales of say 1000 per group for a total of 3000 but wouldn't have any copies added to the back of the queue, unlike Jack Keane 2)

So it's basically the same but without the 4 to 5 hour waits and in theory you should also be able to get whatever game you want in a single sitting. Only downside would be the last day would be 2 or 3 games repeating until the last game is finally gone.

Also, swap out the freebie rules for 10 seconds to click, one registered click per account and randomly assigned to predetermined quantity of people.

CorranHorn: Good suggestion, about the freebie, I suggested that as well and do believe it´s the best way to try and please everyone, I don´t really care about it myself. I came to check out the sale and see which games where free, I staid for the "nostalgia" discussions=).
Basically this ^ When all the sought after games are gone, the sale would be left with only The Keaners and those would take even longer than they took now. Remember those brave souls that sacrificed themselves to The Keaning in order to move it along? Not gonna happen in that case. That's why GoG won't do it.
Has anyone actually said they are looking forward to Duke Nukem?

ooh...I like sandboxy! Mayhaps I should re-investigate...thanks. :)

So depressing

rmuchall: Does anyone know if Assassins Creed has gone past its "Last Chance" yet?
I've been monitoring the sale hoping to get this game but I've not seen it come up yet.

Thanks!
I believe it is still to come.

Faenwulf: People, I am shocked and appaled.
How come that one of the absolute old tiem clasics is keaning on us?
HOW?!
This raises a pressing issue. Does the verbal form require a capital K for correct usage, or is that just for the fuddy-duddies who stick to historical precedent?

Alien8n: Yeah, I saw some of them but they tended to be just "sell for X minutes". This way still maintains the "limited quantity" element, but does allow for a faster turn around allowing a single sitting to be possible. If all games hit 15 minutes there would be a 25 hour turn around, so with some games going in just a few minutes you could easily turn around all the games in under 24 hours, and repeat over the weekend. Downside would be all the slow selling games at the end on an infinite loop, but I guess with freebies added that would maintain interest until the sale finally ended.
Another downside from GOG's point of view, BTW, *might* be that people could just pick the games they want from the list and basically calculate when they have to get in front of their screen to get them. That would mean less exposure of people to games that they've never heard of before. A small amount of randomness in the intervals could fix this though.

Of course if things went well, the much faster turnover would mean that people actually sit through a whole round.

Yeah, you still got time. ;)
But for only 1.50$...you can't really make a big mistake. One of the only problems the game has (because of its age) is its rather strange collision system. So better watch out were you're flying. ;)

ahab: So depressing
I would of bought it 100% if it was 85%+ off, only, just like Monkey Island, which I bought!

mudd1: I think it would be more games that would end up at the end. I mean just do the math. Some games would be gone in just the minimum 3 rounds but all those games that took hours would end up being repeated over and over. So you end up having maybe days where only unpopular games are presented. I see how your concept would be much better for us but I doubt it would be better for GOG sadly :/
Actually it would be better, one of the downsides for GOG is the fact that there is a risk that they won't be able to end the sale within the weekend. This way would maximise sales over a shorter time, still keep the fun element of an "insomnia sale" and mean that at the point the much slower games are left at the end they can call it quits and finish with a much healthier bank balance. How much did they lose when they had to cut JK2 short the first time because people weren't able to buy the games they actually wanted? It's not just about total sales, but also speed of sales. At this rate they risk a serious hit to their reputation by trying to milk games that people simply aren't interested in.

Nope. It has different gameplay. More freedom, you act as a freelance mercenary so you can accept the missions you want from who you want. Different factions, there are diplomacy and business choices involved. More freedom of choice and more strategical.

I caught WC4 and Privateer. The other WC games had traditional linear stories, while Privateer was essentially an early sandbox game. You could take missions from the various factions, or go rogue and be a pirate.

KMetalMind: As many other titles:
1) People who loved it probably already had it.
2) I´m not sure, but the game should have been in other sales, narrowing down the numbers.
3) Then even if there´s people interested which don´t own it, there were rounds 1 or 2.

I seriously think this sale should have stopped after round 2, and that´s said by somebody who has bought a game on 3rd round and gotten a freebie. Unless the game is too new, or too famous, there´s no way to sell so many units in that short amount of time.

For example, I personally got Rayman Origins less than an month ago on another sale. That means one person less on this sale...
I'm glad for the round 3. I was unable to watch or wait during the first two rounds. The only reason to complain about the the round offering more games, is if your waiting for one you missed in the other rounds. I think one improvement they could have done for the final round (which seems to me to have been designed to give everyone a chance) would be to either put eveything up on a promo page (keeping limited quantities) or just have a list showing the next few games that are coming up and adding an option for you to be notified.

Gog don't care about that, they just want to sell what they have put up for sale which is happening.
