Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

MGShogun: I think Wing Commander 4 was before HMM5 but that sells so fast. 600 copies in matter of minutes.

xenxander: Yeah I missed wing commander 4 :( dammit all to hell.
Check your PM.
Here is your less than 100 to go warning...
Is this forum a record yet for the number of posts in a specific time period?

Quantomas: We will do in a couple of weeks, give it a brand new AI: www.eternal-essence.com -- sort of an unofficial 3.2 patch.

By all means get the DRM free bundle from GOG, the mod architecture of Heroes V is pretty complex, can't imagine that Steamworks helps here.

MasodikTiasma: Thank you, but this concerns AI. I was talking about the game crashing under Win7 64 after 1-2 hours of gameplay. Does your unofficial patch correct this as well?

That is my case. I don't know will happen in other pc.

Howlrunner: Oh, don't get me wrong. I know it is an assumption of mine. I have seen how fast some games have sold, within minutes, so obviously there is a lot of people online at any time. I just think the whole idea was a bit poorly thought out. It opens the chance for random passers by to *nab* things, then maybe sell an account later on or whatnot with a couple of games on.
I would just have preferred it if you bought games in the sale, then occasionally one would occur from a list for free you could purchase. Would just seem to reward those who actively participate and support the site, rather than just lurkers trying to get what they can for free :)
I think the ideal way would have been that, sometimes, randomly, when you click purchase, you'd get the game for free. I'd rather have it depend on luck than on internet connection/location in the world.

MGShogun: Me too. As soon I get Icewind Dale and Jade Empire, I'm going to hit the bed then start on the assignment.
avatar
HaydenRead: My assignment is on Time management and planning :-P
That is funny!

QQending: kings bounty, discipline?

Khalaq: I think you mean "Disciples" rather than Discipline?
Ooooh, Disciples. Now that brings back warm memories :3 So many hours lost on that gem.

gscotti: turn based 4X fantasy strategy game
I've seen this a lot (for the first time) in this thread. In case anyone else has the same stupid question I do:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4X

To self - there's no such thing as a stupid question - there's no such thing as a stupid question... :P

Not sure, but pretty sure it must hold a record for the longest flash sale in history...

gscotti: It's sort of like HoMM III, except it sucks.
avatar
Bunnle: I'm curious what your reasoning is of why HoMM5 sucks? It was bad at launch because of a plethora of bugs, but those have all been ironed out by now.
HOMM V definitely doesn't suck. I'll agree that my favorite is HOMM III, but HOMM V is a worthy contribution to the series. It's been all roses for me.
I wish HOMM5 was $2-2,5 or so too, I keep reading it's pretty much 'on par' with the 3rd one, which naturally is my fav one too, like the most people at least. $5 is kinda pushing it, at this late time of the sales :(

thorton70: Back from dinner, did we see Witcher 2 in the last 3 hours?
no witcher2
You know it would be nice to have a searchable history for sales like this along with previews of the next 1-3 games up for grabs (no prices for previews, danged free gaming stealing auto-clickers). Showing the past 5 games, current, next three would be ideal for me. :-)
When I had chance to buy SpellForce I was out of money. Now I have the money, Iam here for hours!! Damn... :/
