No I tried to add extra layers of quoting by mixing "quote" and "quote_1" tags and I'm guessing the forum backend tried to remove the extra layers including most of what I wrote but didn't do it in a consistent way. Weird and broken!

Ah that makes sense, as I've seen other systems try to correct itself, but would fail because it had no way to do it and left the new incomplete version as it updated.
