An idea for a series could be Culture Shock!
Based on an article I read about Japanese tourists getting so much culture shock than their embassies have people and places set up to deal with it.

So, set in two high schools, a Japanese and an American one. Exchange students that have been given the tasks of showing off their cultures. Cue hijinks and misunderstandings etc.
But there's a sinister subplot involving world destroying aliens, and the reason these students are doing this is so that they can show that the two countries can cooperate together. Because they need to in order to fight the aliens!
In mecha!

I never manage to follow web comics. I usually go to the archive and read it for about half-an-hour, from the start.

In the case of megatokyo, I stopped shortly after the authors split up. I was enjoying it, I found the art was nice, and the artist seemed quite capable. But the plot seemed to have been been weaving more threads than could conceivably be put back together. That made me lose interest. It was like "we lost interest on that story, lets go this way for a while".

I never dipped into the forums. But any forum can spiral into an incestuous myopic monoculture filled with crazy people. That is why good moderation is required.

Funny that you mention it. The town was based on Porto, in Portugal. I can recognize some references.You should visit it some time. Great food and lovely friendly people. And the city is quite quaint.
