Happy *late late* Birthday!

I think that Neil Gaiman's The Dream Hunters would make a great Anime.
Here's the plot from the Wikipedia page:

"A fox spirit and a badger (tanuki) wager that whichever of them drives a Buddhist monk from his temple, can claim the temple as its own. Both of them fail, and the badger flees in disgrace, whereas the fox apologises to the monk, and he allows her to stay in the temple.

In a house in Kyoto, a rich onmyōji is consumed by a nameless fear, and consults three women living at the edge of town. They give him instructions to alleviate this fear; the result is that the aforementioned monk will become trapped in a dream, and his body will sleep continuously until it dies. The fox overhears this from several demons employed by the onmyōji and consults the King of All Night's Dreaming (who takes the form of an enormous black fox). In the ensuing conversation, the fox plots capture a baku, and herself take the monk's place in the dream. The plan is successful, but the monk is distraught at the fox's condition and leaves his temple to awaken her. Binzuru Harada instructs him on how to find the King of All Night's Dreaming. After a journey through the realm of dreams (during which he encounters the Japanese counterparts of Fiddler's Green and Cain and Abel from the Sandman comics), he arrives at the palace. The gatekeeper, an Itsumade, eventually lets him in. A raven, who is the departed spirit of a poet, guides him through it, and he is granted an audience.

The King of All Night's Dreaming tells him what the fox had done, and that rescuing her entails the failure of her plan. The monk frees her against her wishes, and the King of All Night's Dreaming allows them a farewell. The monk then takes the fox's place, giving her the advice, "Seek not revenge, but the Buddha"; but in conversation with the King of All Night's Dreaming, she resolves to seek revenge first. Following the monk's death, the fox tracks down the onmyōji and seduces him in her human form; then persuades him to destroy his possessions. Therefore he burns down his house and that of the three women, killing his wife, concubines, and servants in the process. He then returns to the fox, who cajoles him into disrobing, then reverts to her true form and bites one of his eyes.

In the realm of dreams, the King of All Night's Dreaming is satisfied by the story, and that everyone involved learned an important lesson. The narration then suggests that the monk and the fox were re-united in the afterlife; but this is purposely ambiguous."

It's a great book, an immersive read and has been adapted in a comic book too.
I urge you to read this and if I'm eligible for the giveaway I want to try my luck with Arcanum.

Yes! He simply adjusted the story to fit his Sandman. Never read the original tale, although I'm a sucker for folk tales and various fairy tales.
and... i guess i should post something about GK2. image of original box art taken from mobygames.

bump.

anti-magic academy is probably better than the cavalry anime.
bump.

why does the garo guy look like the blackswordsman guy in anti-magic?
bump. is heavy object the battletech of anime? by that i mean plot armor beating realistic mecha-physics.
Happy birthsday!

Not in, but I think the novel MY LIFE AS A WHITE TRASH ZOMBIE would make a fine anime. It's about this white trash girl who is involved in an automobile accident which turn her into a zombie but then she get a job at a coroner's office which is practical because when she gets enough brain she gets superpowers and becoming a zombie inspired her to clean up her life and there's this serial killer on the lose ... Great book!
Happy birthday. Not in.

Agreed - that series has some great covers!

The Kara Gillian series, also written by Diana Rowland, could also be a fine anime: Witch and police detective Kara Gillian was doing a routine demon summoning, to help her hunt down a serial killer. But something went wrong, and she accidently summons a horny demon lord instead.

Hello. I hope you had a nice birthday. Enjoy your new age!

I'd be in for Arcanum, if possible.

I'd like to see something based on China Miéville's "The City & the City". Given Japan's problem with lack of space, it would be very cool. And I'm thinking of some dual planes of existence in the style of Serial Experiment Lain, or the urban style of Durarara.

Naming it... That is hard. I gave up of coming up with a perfect name. I'll go with a "not the worst": Megatokyo (even if there is a web comic with the same name).

i was waiting for someone to want arcanum! i don't see why an anime can't be set in europe. though animators will probably get it all wrong.

megatokyo gave me horrid memories. the artist was a worst person than the penny arcade guys, and fired his long-time friend and writer from the webcomic. then... it went downhill. i don't know how the heck he ever fed his baby with such a half-assed approach to his art which was supposed to be his full-time job. maybe he got a real job or he's an oil tycoon. who knows? the forums he created is even worse. most of the posters didn't even read his webcomic and absolutely hate japanese and gaming culture! that and it seems to be full of mid-western amurikans who unironically love dubya bush. i got banned from by their mods for supposedly being a communist. madness. incidentally the forums seem to have died after obama got elected. i wonder why.

I think Kiki's Delivery Service did a fair job.
