richlind33: I seem to recall that there were a lot of comments on Steam that the "new" Skyrim was just another shameless cash-grab, and the old version is well-hidden.

kohlrak: Special Edition is just a fancy rename for the GOTY release (all the official DLC, including the HD textures) with some added mods that weren't released for the original (basically, added fog effects, enbs, and stuff). Steam users got it for free, and the original is still available for those that already owned it. It makes sense not to call it GOTY edition, because it's more than just all the DLC and official mods, but it's essentially that.
Dewd, you are so, so wrong. They have the *Special Edition*, and they have the !!!***Special Edition Deluxe***!!!.

How's that for "creative genius"? lol
Skyrim will come here when sales for it elsewhere dwindle.
I think it will. Bethesda releaded all previous gen games here on gog.
When?
I don't know, but I think soon because I think they plan to release all games here on gog, just with a little delay. At least I wish they will... Right now I'm playing fallout 3-new vegas and oblivion (I'm at the first)... So I will be happy if I will be able to buy skyrim here.

You got me. At first i thought you were serious, but then i googled, and didn't find it. The big point at the end of the day is that it would've been untenable for console editions to get the updates of special edition, but they needed to make the tagline available for steam, so they gave everyone who owned original skyrim and DLC the name change in one package. Even the mods are cross compatible.

nightcraw1er.488: A brief look at the releases over the months should tell you that skyrim is just too niche for this hipster palais. Get it on steam much cheaper.

Tauto: Price doesn't worry me,Steam does.
Well said.

I think Bethesda will hold onto Skyrim a little while yet. However, I never thought theyd let Fallout 3 go or New vegas, so I`m confident it`ll be released... Give it a few years I say.

I already have the game but would snap it up if on GOG no DRM.

EDIT:

Oh, and the creator's club is basically the special compromise: Modders wanted to be able to sell mods (which was a problem at one point), so the creator's club allows mods to apply for special paid status at which point bethesda acts as a middle-man and ensuring quality so that they don't take the flack when someone buys a mod that they didn't OK but blames them for it anyway.
I remember reading they tweaked the engine for proper 64 bit use.

i thought it was that way from the start. Either way, that's the the basic jist of things. The skyrim re-releases, despite how people are so angry with them, make perfect sense, given that the HD texture packs and such were likely planned from the release and got toned down when systems were having trouble meeting requirements (I actually have to use a minimalist texture pack to prevent stutter, due to bad programming involving texture loading: they load off the hard drive rather than simply caching to RAM, so if you have an HDD instead of SSD, it's not going to end well).

Ok, that one i can't excuse, other than saying that "GOTY" including all DLC is an informal standard. Still, that was a crappy move.

Tauto: Rubbish! Steam is NOT required for a DRM free version if it came to Gog.You want proof,go pirate.
avatar
kohlrak: People pirated the mod tools? They're free, iirc, you don't even need the base game to get them either, but i could be wrong. I'm still not sure how that thing works. Or are you confusing the mod tools for skyrim with skyrim itself, 'cause everyone's confirmed skyrim has easily been divorced from steam, even Nintendo and Sony have managed to point this out.
I'm not confused but you sure are and that's obvious from this post.

I hope it doesn't take a few (more) years to come here.

I'm not a pirate but this sort of shit gets me to thinking that maybe I should be, on principle. o.O

It's called 'The Very Special Edition'.
never, gag doesnt feature creation club

Gekko_Dekko: never, gag doesnt feature creation club
They can simply release the previous version or even miss out the CC just as they miss out Steam on other games. So it`s very far from `never`.
