kultpcgames: After "Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition", another game that has been purchased in which content is subsequently deleted from the library!
avatar
DerBesserwisser: Could you elaborate on that?
Another World lost some extras including:
The 15th anniversary edition
The manual
And HD wallpapers

Other content was removed but it was brought back, but those above didn't.

maxpoweruser: Falcon 4.0 was proudly displayed in bold in the snapshot from April 26th of this year.

https://web.archive.org/web/20230426022809/https://www.gog.com/en/game/falcon_collection

By the time the next snapshot was made on May 29th, someone had sneakily removed it from the description.

https://web.archive.org/web/20230529184154/https://www.gog.com/en/game/falcon_collection

And now the file has been removed from the server. We have proof that something has been going on with Falcon 4.0 over a period of time. Someone is deliberately messing with our stuff.
Even if it has been removed from the top it's present in Goodies list.

In Falcon Collection Downloads according to gogdb Falcon 4 and manual are present (https://www.gogdb.org/product/1443160711#downloads), unfortunately in the library there's not a "Falcon Collection" entry but extras are in "Falcon Gold" and "Falcon A.T.".

I wrote to GOG Support and hope it's a mistake, or something like they are going to put "Falcon Collection" in our libraries.

I bought the Falcon collection a long time ago. The collection was altered to single titles a few month ago. So Falcon 4.0 has been removed permanently.

Whatever happened, it was not a mistake. The snapshots prove that they scrubbed a reference to it on the product page, and later removed the file. That's a deliberate pattern of behaviour over time.

Falcon Collection is still available, and in the Goodies there's Falcon 4 with the manual:

To take it away permanently would really be a terrible thing, unacceptable I would say.

You won't get the collection but instead the single titles without Falcon 4.0. As I wrote: I bought the collection, GOG shows me the collection as owned and I have the single titles without Falcon 4.0. They have changed it a few month ago, but it is indeed interesting that they still promoting Falcon 4.0

Wasn't Falcon 4 always been in EXTRAS and never as a separate entry in the library?

Yes and it is removed.

Ok, but why are you sure it's not a mistake and it will never be in Falcon Collection and our libraries?

BreOl72: So, I stay by my comment: this is THE definition of DRM.
Absolutely not. DRM is control over software you have. If you bought something but didn't download it, you don't have it. It's like ordering a physical item from a store and then not bothering to go pick it up. Hopefully the store will be around until such time as you feel like getting it, but you can't count on it 100%. If GOG shuts down tomorrow and all their servers go offline, that doesn't magically make all their DRM-free games turn into DRM games. I'm not defending the practice of removing anything from anyone's library for any reason (because it's bad), but it's not DRM.

Of course I'm not sure. But nobody is answering the questions so I'm assuming the worst case. So the future will tell us if it is really an error or yeah.

Sure buddy. Whatever you and amok say.
Why don't you tell that to the people who paid money for a collection of two games and two add-ons, but are now one game short?
See, what they think about your explanation.

things I do not like =/= DRM
This has happened a few times now. Recently, a bunch of extras for Another World were removed. Now it's a full game. This is a worrying trend.

I would feel a lot more reassured if we could get an acknowledgement from GOG that they are at least looking into this. I'd ultimately like an explanation of what happened, and assurances that this isn't going to keep happening.

It's not DRM. I already said that what GOG did wasn't acceptable. But it's not DRM. Labeling random things "DRM" makes it harder to talk about the problems with actual DRM when you go around muddying the waters like this.
