What is Undertale anyway?

Undertale, a most peculiar RPG adventure, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% launch discount.

What is Undertale? It's a good, tough question. It's a particularly weird little game — a textbook case of so unusual and special, that saying too much might end up a disservice.

The adorable 8-bit RPG is, like most things in life and Undertale, an unassuming layer of lies. Lies, beneath which lies one of the most interesting indie games in recent memory — Undertale the RPG where talking your way out of every fight is an option, but then so is total genocide. It's a game that throws countless twists at you — abstract encounters with absurd enemies, the most unexpected consequences to your actions, and vastly varying experiences that are 100% your fault. Who you are, and how your Undertale plays out will change everything — even your next inevitable playthrough.

Your most peculiar adventure begins with Undertale, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until March 8, 1:59 PM GMT.

In the press:
“The puzzles aren't particularly impressive.” 10/10 – Destructoid
“I have a couple of issues with the user interface.” 10/10 – PCInvasion
“If there’s a criticism to be had, it’s that sometimes Toby Fox doesn’t know when to let a joke go.” 10/10 – The Jimquisition
Gosh this looks hideous.
Because, many game developers still prefer Steam as their main platform.
Also, because of the piracy, many games are not DRM-Free, even that is a stupid ideea, as long as big pirates are launching their version in same day (maximum 2 days).
Maybe, the producers should find another way of getting money.

ShadowWulfe: So... why not release it day one?
They didn't think it would make money.
Oh great, patience rewarded! Now I don't have to make my kid a Steam account, she's been wanting this. :)

tfishell: Excellent, I'm glad to see it here b/c - like astroclay mentioned - the game had so many votes. :) I assume GOG was uninterested until they saw how well it sold on Steam, though. :-P Still, good work GOG team.

Now bring Torchlight 2, Cave Story+, Braid (hefty discount release) and The Witness, Firewatch, Super Meat Boy, The Consuming Shadow (unreject it), tentatively Dex (if devs will support DRM-free version), Isaac, etc. https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games
Imho only The Witness and Torchlight 2 are worthy to be here. Of course your tastes are different than mine...
I heard alot about it. Download demo version. And tried it. But was a bit disgruntled :( So removed it.
Don't know why others are so hyped about it. Maybe I didn't find true spirit of this game.

Venita: Determination.

muntdefems: Now let's just hope the Linux port testing phase ends soon, and it makes its way to GOGland.

I can start forgetting about the 20% off discount though, I'm affraid... :(

Kunovski: if you're pretty sure it's going to happen, just buy it and wait ;)
Yeah, because never before did a previously announced Linux port has failed to become a reality. Guess I'll wait, even if that means missing out on the discount.

I was just listing off indie games with 800+ wishlist votes. ;)
Its an interesting game, really nice music. Unfourtunatly it didnt get me. Just got bored to be honest.
Also i can stand the fanbase, but honestly there isnt a fanbase i dont get annoyed by

But im happy for those that want it here that it got released.
I kept getting this and Underrail mixed up all the time. "Why are people bitching the game is not on GOG, when it is?".

According to this thread, apparently many people feel highly about this game. I've never heard about it, besides people here bitching about it not being on GOG. I didn't get sold on the trailer either (seemed like a generic pixellated old-skool RPG with SID music), but I guess there has to be something for all that praise.

I guess I will buy it at some point during some sale. Same goes to Underrail. I hope I'll like the games, in fact I hope I'll ever get around to actually playing them.
Game already is getting bad reviews on GOG, but they appear focused more on the fan base than the actual game.

Can people please use the reviews system responsibly and for the actual game please..... this isn't Steam you know :)
Never thought I'd get to say this, but: Already bought it elsewhere GOG. :(

Just picked it up a few weeks back, at Humble Store, but it's nice that it finally showed up here.

My summary? Weird game. 10/10
This is the game that beat Ocarina of Time in GameFAQs "Best game of all time" list.

Zoidberg: Oh neat to see this release here, pretty awesome touching game!

But fortunately, as it is currently unfairly priced (that is not uniquely priced), I will not buy it again, so thanks for that! :)
Pretty much this, except for the fact that I don't own the game by now and would have bought it right away. :(
