Your empire rises, better than ever...

The Settlers: Rise of an Empire - Gold Edition, a quality return to the core formula, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The game is available at 50% off, or 60% off if you complete the series.

The Settlers is a series fond of change and evolution, and though it's hard for a fan to call any entry "bad", some design choices have met with equal amounts of praise and criticism. After The Settlers: Heritage of Kings launched to a controversial reception, enamoring some and disappointing others - The Settlers: Rise of An Empire returns to a more classic formula, catering to the oldest fans of the series, while providing plenty of eye candy and much-needed updates for newcomers. The gameplay basics, like building and collecting resources, have been streamlined to minimise menial clicking and annoyances - but not so much that they can be considered "dumbed down". At the time of it's premiere, Rise of an Empire was considered (arguably, of course) the best to date.

To celebrate the launch, The Settlers: Rise of an Empire along with the whole series is available at 60% off when you complete your collection. You can also pick up the games at 50% off individually.

Rediscover the love in The Settlers: Rise of an Empire - Gold Edition, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until September 7, 2:59 PM GMT.

Gnostic: So, is the game good?

I remember the settlers 3 for a relaxing city building RTS game but I dno't know about this one
I enjoyed it, and still have it in disc form. It is closer to what the early Settlers games was about, building a city and managing its resources. If you enjoyed the early Settlers game you should give this one a try.

Thanks! :)
The problem i have is that both TS heritage of kings and rise of an empire can't enable full graphics and are both locked to low on modern day drivers for newer graphics cards so they look like complete crap and are unplayable.. has gog.com patched this? because last time i checked the forums they haven't and thats whats going to make me replace me cd version... the ability to enable all high graphics on a brand new 980+ all round rig. The games are so old they don't detect the new stuff, so they think youre using old tech and don't let you enable anything.

I hope you can find some other more worthy home for it.

Wow, a surprise release, and a very nice one at that!
This is really a surprise. I loved The Settlers II and I loved the remake of it (also the second remake The Settlers: Rise of Cultures which is only available in german - sorry guys). I never played this one. So I really should buy and try it.

By the way I'm still waiting for a chance to play The Settlers I.

Karahandras: The always on drm for settlers 7 was removed. It's a uplay game now.
I thought uPlay was always on too? Can you now set it to launch and exit silently like Origin does instead of always coming up before and after the game?

More DRM-free games from Ubisoft is always a good thing! Great!
I've been enjoiying The Settlers II remaster quite a bit and Rise of an Empire seemed so close to this one's experience, even though the series somehow shifted from that, uh, "cartoonish" experience or something; some way more experienced folks tell me that the whole core of the settlers experience moved to something more sober. Gog reviewers tell me that also :)
But I'm glad the series continue to be strong, even to this day. I'm serious.

Except for the Settlers Online. That one I just can't recommend :(

Smannesman: Apparently they made more Settlers games than I knew of.

Matruchus: Heh, there are two more:

- Settlers: Path to a Kingdom
- Settlers: Kingdom of Anteria (still in development)
but those are always online only (Uplay) so very doubtfull they will be available on gog in the future.
Bought this game but I guess my collection ends at this. No way I'm going to buy games that have uplay (of course GOG wouldn't sell them) but I wouldn't touch them through steam either. Uplay is no play for me even if there are games I would really like.

Licurg: Since Ubi is releasing more games here, can we get this ?

I always heard good things about it, but never played it. It's supposed to be "revolutionary" for it's time .
Yes, thisone should work with the help of nGlide or DGVoodoo without problems.
Here is a gameplay video of it:

Anyway, I am really happy, that Ubi brings more games from their library to GOG. Keep it up guys! Thanks. :)

You are right, but you can configure the games up to 1600 x 1200 pix (if you have a 1920x1200 16:10 monitor).

Always on = always online i.e. requiring permanent internet connection to play. Which was removed/changed.
Uplay gameluancher will auto launch when u play settlers 7(is u don't luanch it) you launch it and you close it after. So unlike steam it only runs runs as long as you're playing. I think it's basically ubi's version of steam but without the spyware.
Does anyone know which version GOG has for Settlers II: 10th Anniversary?

2.0.0.8 is written on the installer. Otherwise its not visible inside the game which version it is.
