It's time to celebrate the 14 years of making games last forever. We're doing that by releasing one of the most anticipated games by the community – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The game is widely considered one of the best video games of all time and has received credit for popularizing large open-world role-playing games. After many requests from our users and being released on almost every appliance that is able to run the game, the acclaimed RPG is available on GOG in two versions – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (-50%) and Special Edition (-67%).

It is worth mentioning that Skyrim on GOG comes with a dedicated build, to give users the best possible adventure in Tamriel. The game is entirely playable offline thanks to GOG’s DRM-free nature and gives users the Anniversary Edition content without the need for Creation Club access.

As the game is recognized as one of the most modded titles in the history of video games, support for community-created content in Skyrim was one of our top priorities. The GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods via Nexus Mods Vortex v1.6.12 and newer. Support for mods requiring Skyrim Script Extender will be added later today. Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon.

Take the chance to travel to Tamriel before the discounts on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim editions end on 13th October, 10 PM UTC. Also, join us in celebration of the 14th GOG Anniversary which will last until October 9th, 2022, at 10 PM UTC.

Lodium: Uhm
Some of the gog staff posts kinda implys the realease was a suprise or was wery hard to keep secret
For something beiing a suprise it has to be a secret or known to wery few people
More people = bigger chance of leak = no suprise

richlind33: If it's just the mod manager that's at issue it isn't that big of a deal, but are Skyrim mods universally compatible with Vortex v1.6.12? If they aren't, this isn't just about the mod manager.

Without canvassing Skyrim modders it isn't terribly ethical to just assume they'll update their mods for Vortex v1.6.12. Some will, some won't, for various reasons.
Maybe, or maybe not, i think it woud still be a risk if you wanted to keep the realese a secret but im no mind reader so
i dont know what thougth process went in the head of the gog staff or what kind of analysis they did

Btw the amount of mods for skyrim is huge

The best Skyrim mods can be tough to find when there are over 68,000 of them on NexusMods and 28,000 on the Steam Workshop
there are probably other on other mod sites as well
i then i havent even mentioned lost or missing mods thats lost to time
so i doubr they are all universally compitable
and theres a cap of total max mods you can have active at the same time as well if i remember correctly
i think it was 250 but this migth be wrong

bshwalker: The most interesting thing that I can see is that Wrye Bash recognizes and gives the green light to all of my mods, but the base game and all DLCs are red.
When I hover over the red lines it says-
"Plugin is missing string localization files. Master plugin. Active in load order."
According Wrye, the problem isnt with mods, its with the game.
You can just ignore that it shows in red, as it will have no effect on the game.
The strings are there, they are just inside the .BSA's
You can extract the strings from the BSA's with BSAManager.exe and place them in Skyrim Special Edition\Data\Strings for the language you are using, and the base game files will show in green.
Or like I say, you can just ignore the fact that they're red.
It seems one of the essential mods for making a good-looking character, RaceMenu, recently became updated a few days ago on the author's Patreon page but not yet on Nexus.

But apparently that very recently updated mod still does not work with the GOG version.

Is this indicative of a major problem with the GOG release, meaning that even newly-updated mods will sometimes not work with the GOG version?

If so, that would make the GOG version be very dire.

I think GOG and Bethesda need to find a way to 100% unify the GOG & Steam versions of the game and make them use the exact same build, in order to avoid problems such as this, which if they keep going like this, then that would make the GOG version not be a worthwhile version.

So which mods are a must for Skyrim at the moment?
This is my first time playing Skyrim and oh man, this game is reserved for weekends only, because I went to sleep at 2:00 AM two consecutive nights. It made me feel like a teenager again with its addictive gameplay. I've seen footage of mods, but since this is my first time playing the game, that's another area that's gonna steal my life away.

Bug-Fix (one of my must have mods):
Reset Random Dialogue Scenes SE https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34961/
Reset Random Dialogue Scenes LE https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/113009/
Why is that in GOG Galaxy it appears as $24.99 but here it appears as $16.99? Is gonna charge me for the 24 dollar one or the 16 one?

P-E-S: Considering it was originally released on 11/11/11, I think the GOG release timing is spot-on if not actually early. ;)

marcob: Wow, does the date have some mysterious meaning?
Nope, it was just a marketing stunt.

Is it a regional pricing thing? Your location says United States but obviously you might be outside the country at the moment.

Also, there are two versions: Anniversary Ed. for $25 and SE for $13.19. And the DLC Upgrade for $14 if you don't buy Anniversary Ed.

GOG.com: ...
I messaged a blue about this but in case this has a better chance of getting seen here, the store image for Skyrim Anniversary Ed. is still missing, if viewed in "stacked" / list view.

GOG: The GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods.

Skyrim GOG SE/AE/BE/CE...ZE (who knows): No.

GOG: Game version rollback and disabling automatic updates available.

Me: How far is the rollback possible?

GOG: Yes.

GOG: Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods.

Skyrim GOG SE/AE/BE/CE...ZE (who knows): I'm so smooth, all mods fall down.

Vortex: Green is the new red. I ignore all mods and only show vanilla.

Me: Never again a Bethesda game. Skyrim is useless without mods. Many mods were last updated years ago. The modders have had other projects for a long time. No Bruma, Forgotten City, CBBE Bodyslide etc. for the GOG version. There are better RPGs (Witcher) anyway. I may or may not reinstall the Steam version. I'm slowly getting tired of it... First the long wait/hope, then the big surprise and finally the big disappointment... Thanks for nothing.

Kikisama: Skyrim is useless without mods.
Well, YMMV, of course - but I dare to disagree.
I played the vanilla version and loved it. No mods needed to enjoy the game.

I dare to agree with the disagreement.
Believe it or not and this is the case not just for Skyrim but in general - people also are looking for the same exact experience they had back when the game originally launched, without mods or total conversions, warts and all. Nostalgia still is and will forever be a powerful motivator.

In fact, I was rummaging through some old files on Saturday, found a couple save games from 2012, popped them in to see if they work with the GOG release and at 4 o'clock in the morning, decided to get at least a couple hours of sleep before getting up again at 9 o'clock...

... to continue on where I left off.
"Through the GOG Galaxy app, you can easily roll back to an older version of the game"
...Of fucking course
When I played Skyrim in the past I never played the game with 74 mods in my wildest dreams, and believe me, I tried. But obviously I was not interested in every mod in existence

My point of view is that if something will be tweaked and fixed in the future regarding mods in this GOG version, 74 mods would be more than enough for me at least for the first month :). And only under the possibility where any external mod would be unfunctional in these release, something I have my doubts :)
