It's time to celebrate the 14 years of making games last forever. We're doing that by releasing one of the most anticipated games by the community – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The game is widely considered one of the best video games of all time and has received credit for popularizing large open-world role-playing games. After many requests from our users and being released on almost every appliance that is able to run the game, the acclaimed RPG is available on GOG in two versions – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition (-50%) and Special Edition (-67%).

It is worth mentioning that Skyrim on GOG comes with a dedicated build, to give users the best possible adventure in Tamriel. The game is entirely playable offline thanks to GOG’s DRM-free nature and gives users the Anniversary Edition content without the need for Creation Club access.

As the game is recognized as one of the most modded titles in the history of video games, support for community-created content in Skyrim was one of our top priorities. The GOG version is compatible out of the box with most modifications mods via Nexus Mods Vortex v1.6.12 and newer. Support for mods requiring Skyrim Script Extender will be added later today. Additionally, GOG is preparing something special to provide an even smoother experience with mods – expect more details soon.

Take the chance to travel to Tamriel before the discounts on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim editions end on 13th October, 10 PM UTC. Also, join us in celebration of the 14th GOG Anniversary which will last until October 9th, 2022, at 10 PM UTC.
I'm having a Problem with mods. They don't work at all.
I installed skse64_2_02_02_gog, I'm using Vortex.
I was trying to install SkyUI_5_2_SE and Alternate Start - Live Another Life but the game ignores all settings and starts as vanilla without any error message.
What am I doing wrong?

I've found the Solution.
It was Problem with deployment method in Vortex.
I had to set Vortex-Mod folder (in Vortex "Settings->Mods") to the same disc as the Game.
I've installed Skyrim in e:\Program Files so I've set the folder to "e:\SomethingSomething\mods".

Look in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition GOG
Is there a plugins.txt file there?
If not, Vortex is putting it in the wrong place, and try this.
Create a .txt file and name it plugins, then add the line *SkyUI_SE.esp

Edit: Nevermind my slow typing, I'm glad you found the problem.

Thanks :)
I have big problems with the mods :( I last played Skyrim SE in early 2020 via Steam, modded with the Nexus Mod Manager. Everything works great. I tried modding the GOG version with Vortex. Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Enhancer I installed together with BodySlide. The skin textures are missing. RaceMenu is also installed. When I open it in game, only the normal character editor opens. Other mods that worked perfectly back then don't work either. I do not understand that. I was really looking forward to the release of GOG but nothing works at all.

Can someone give me a tip why the mods are not working?

I also liked the old Nexus Mod Manager a lot better than Vortex.
I have now ran into another problem with modding this game: one of the essential key mods upon which many other mods depend is FNIS.

But everyone says FNIS should be not be used if the game is installed in the Program Files x86 folder, even though that is the folder where I install all of my GOG games to and I never had a problem with doing that until now.

When I look up guides online about how to transfer my installation and mods of Skyrim to a different folder, they all have instructions based on using Steam to accomplish that task, which is not an acceptable solution to me.

So, is there any way I can transfer my installation to a different folder without using Steam? And if so, then how is that done, exactly?

I wish someone would have told me about this problem before I installed the game.

Skyrim, when?

Oh, wait... this no longer works! o_0
Great job. I got the original on steam and a ps4 version but I am sure I'll end up getting the anniversary edition too on GOG.

OMG THANK YOU!

Now go away! The computer is ALL MINE, and I'm PLAYING NOW!!

*Puts up sign: "Will be returning NEVER" and slams door as maniacal laughter emanates from within*

Seriously, though, you have my thanks. I haven't wanted to support Steam with their endless revisions and new versions, though my two sisters have and it has been an... uncomfortable experience. Especially since one of them literally have over 150 mods she spent THREE MONTHS getting to work simultaneously together - AND THEN Steam force-updated her installation without her knowledge and she had to start from scratch.

I put around 800 hours into ES5 on Xbox 360 until I got a job working 14 hours a day and the Xbox died from neglect. It's been about 5 or 6 years since I have had a good time one-shotting dragons with my Stealth Crossbow build. Honestly, dragons are such pushovers, but I remember the first time I was wandering around and *WHUMP* - I turn around as a very adventurous Level 12 or something just in time to get a faceful of teeth and fire.

"I got killed by a dragon?! THAT WAS SUCH A CHEAP DEATH! I -

Wait a minute. I got killed... by a DRAGON! This game has DRAGONS!!!"

-----

I swear to God, Bethesda hasn't released anything bug free in their existence except MAYBE Arena back in the day. Of course when it was released almost nobody had a computer that could run it, so who would know? -_-

Please tell me after half a dozen re-releases, community patches, etc. this thing finally, finally works...

paladin181: Daggerfall is still the biggest and IMO the best ES game ever made.
avatar
dtgreene: Daggerfall really does have more of everything. More cities, more dungeons, more generic NPCs, more bugs...
Daggerfall is why I suffer for compulsive saving disorder it crashed so regularly and often corrupted the saves that I got in the habit of saving after pretty much every action. Now I do that in all games and feel anxiety in games that limit my saves to but a handful or worse just a single slot.
