We’ve teased you with this title for some time now. All the fans of Netflix series and the classic movie from Jim Henson will be more than pleased to know that Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is now available DRM-free on GOG.COM. Lead the small unit of partisan Gelflings against the oppressive Skeksis across more than 50 turn-based tactics RPG battles.
I haven't watched the series, but I did like the original film. I also happen to be a fan of strategy-RPGs.

I'm putting this on my wishlist for now.

MadalinStroe: From the reviews I've seen on youtube, almost all mention that you should watch the Netflix series, prior to playing the game. Apparently it's impossible to make sense of the story, if you haven't seen the series.
I was more talking about how(since this is a prequel) we all know how it turns out(in general).....so if one can "win" in this game it's either non-canon or a temp victory before the events of the film.

Also as for watching the series...I am tempted but I have so many things to use up my time atm.....plus sometimes it's fun to mindlessly plod through some games. :)

If that's what you're looking for, you should also consider Druidstone, here on GOG. The "story" is utterly inconsequential/forgettable, while the gameplay is still tactics.

I like story more, but sometimes I find it fun to just mindlessly play some games sometimes...know what I mean? :)

Also will remember the suggestion, but it might be awhile....i'm less into these types of games(am mainly interested due to the subject matter), actually.

Crosmando: Woah Jim Henson Company, the masters of physical-effects puppetry, though I didn't know they got into video games.
Definitely watch the Netflix series if you haven't seen it yet. It felt very nostalgic.

I played the first two missions and if I hadn't watched the series, it would be really hard to guess what's going on. The game is a nice addition for fans of the series (and maybe the original sequel) but storywise as standalone, it's not told very properly...

All I get to say, is this

Or, don't bother. This guy admits he doesn't like strategy games of any kind and is bored by turn-based games. Just because he loves the subject material doesn't mean the game is going to magically jump genres to something he actually likes.

PromZA: Another one of those titles not available for certain regions. Wish they'd state this though and why it's the case.

blotunga: Which is weird because we have no censorship here.
If anything it's more than likely a licensing issue or just another one of those classic GOG mistakes. It's however a few regions now I see so don't think it's the latter.
I hope The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will be released on DVD or Bluray. Once in a blue moon, I binge watch a series that interests me. However, that doesn't happen often enough for me to subscribe to a streaming service like Netflix.
I had a bad feeling about this game, I'm watching a review and it's cheap and boring as I expected, just a clunky cash in on the IP. Even the story is just a retelling of the series. As I said, I'm thrilled for the next season, while this much not necessary game will be a hard pass for me. At least, for looking bad, it looks better than the previous awful Sierra adventure game. You would think that being the film and the series visually stunning they could nail the aesthetics at least, but no.

While Jim Sterling's reviews are mostly good, in this case taking advice from somebody that is recovering from a failed root canal, on a subject they don't especially enjoy(tactitcs games) might produce expected results.Jim doesn't like tactics games, he is in pain, therefore his sleep deprived review paints the game in a less than favorable light.

I'm not saying that Jim is wrong, just that his negative conclusion might be exaggerated.

GameRager: Nice(I love the film)...but LOL at these blurbs on the store page:

"With 15 playable characters, including familiar faces from the classic film and the new Netflix original series, build your own teams and devise winning strategies to overthrow the rule of the Skeksis and restore light to the Gelfling homeworld of Thra!"

"Unite the Gelfling tribes and drive the rebellion to success, or defeat..."

As per the above, if the game is based as a SEQUEL to the original film or in an alternate timeline/etc, that seems plausible....but if it's set BEFORE it....well let's just say I cannot help but chuckle, having seen the film many times.

GameRager: They likely did what many film/tv companies & ip holders did before: Hire a third party company to make a game for them. :)

gamesfreak64: Anyway, win7 has just past away and it is already 'buried' ?
avatar
GameRager: Likely the game will still run on Win7...they just cannot officially list it or support it....though to be safe i'd ask others more in the know before buying(if you have Win7 and might want to buy this game).
ah like that :D i get it , well then it is obvious i won't take a risk unless it reads win7 , since demos are pretty rare , now and then a few have a demo, demo's are a must imho, playing a demo tells more about the game then a few videos , it also shows if and how well it runs, provided it is a beta demo and not a alpha.

Anyway, soon win7 games wont be developed anylonger , which is logical ,the only positive is saving lots of money i normally spend on buying games, GG ( gamersgate) still has no paysafe support , it was removed a while ago and would likely return so far nothing, so i already save much euros at GG, Steam will soon be having less win7 games aswell, which will also save me a huge amount of cash spending there.

Yep, you've got to take this review with a pinch of salt. ^^

Nevertheless the slow and clunky interface alone is a big no-go for me. I'll pass on this boring game and rather watch the series.
