Sokobond, a game of puzzles and chemistry, is available now for Windows and Mac OS X, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 50% launch discount.

Opposites attract, like dissolves like, matter is always conserved - that's all most of us remember from high school (some of us just read it online like ten minutes ago). Sokobond is a puzzle game grounded in the simple concepts of chemistry. A logical, minimalistic design matches the deceptively basic rule-set with a simple premise: manipulate a single atom to form chemical bonds and molecules. Varied, tough, and logical - Sokobond is everything you could want from a pure puzzle experience. No prior chemical knowledge is required to enjoy the game, but a tiny bit might help. You may just learn a thing or two as you tackle these increasingly sophisticated puzzles.

Sokobond, a gamer's crash-course in chemistry, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, March 12 at 11:59 AM GMT.
This looks like a free flash game I'd play on Kongregate. Is it?
Oh, that's a good one.
Will the Linux version appear here later?

Ghorpm: Move along, nothing to see here. Sorry but I couldn't resist ;P;P;P
To be fair, that''s what high school physics usually is. "A force is like a push or pull or something, it's measured in newtons, one newton is equal to the force of gravity acting on a object whose mass is about 102 grams because I said so, now let's multiply random numbers by 9.8 because we still have half an hour to kill."
"But why didn't they choose a sane standard for the newton, say, the force of gravity acting on a kilo of matter?"
"Look, it's just convention. That's how scientists do things. Now multiply E-flat by tomato and check your answer at the back of the book."
I was doing really well in Advanced Physics, so failing basic dumbass public school felt like a kick in the nuts. After about a month of this, Advanced Physics caught up. Instead of multiplying by tomato, they required us to actually do mathematically sound calculations and check the units of measurement.

"Why aren't you done yet?"
"Baww, the units don't check out. See, I have to get newtons somehow, but my end result is nonsense like kilograms by meters per A SQUARED SECOND."
"But that's what a newton is."

Ghorpm: Laugh as hard as I do every time I see magnetism in a video game ;P
Teslagrad is still adorable tho.

Klumpen0815: Oh, looks like Atomix v2.0

Does anybody remember this game?

Very nice.
Of course i do. I played the hell out of it.
This one seems pretty interesting as well.

Ghorpm: A-pain-in-the-neck-physicist mode on:

There is a well known experiments where two highly and opposite charged droplets do not really attract each other but bounce off each other.

Ethanol (very polar) can dissolve both very polar and very non-polar compounds

Energy, not mass is always conserved (mass is in fact a form of energy). The simplest example: annihilation process. Both electron and positron have mass while emitted photons do not.

A-pain-in-the-neck-physicist mode off

Move along, nothing to see here. Sorry but I couldn't resist ;P;P;P

Konrad: I sooo knew this was going to happen. :p
You (or whoever wrote that) have totally provoked me! That's not my fault! What can I say? I simply cannot resist my inner-physicist-nerdiness ;) I did similar thing during Puddle gem promo ;)

That's the most recent game that made me laugh about magnetism. If it worked like they made in in this game then you would be able to drive this car :D But I did enjoyed the game nonetheless.

Thank you to everybody who recommended the game!

It's really good fun and I can confirm that need to know absolutely nothing about chemistry to enjoy it.

So far I've completed 36 levels and things slowly start to get a little harder. I would say that it's a relaxing puzzle game. Not as hard as SpaceChem, but something you can play and enjoy when you have just some minutes left.

This meme is completely wrong. The car will never work as depicted because-- oh. Oh.
Gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8. =)
I'm glad GOG is still releasing stuff this week! Probably not my cup of tea though.
Linux Peasant Race Represent

***Oh, and this is an Adobe AIR product, so nothing of value was lost.

You know, although the game is being touted for you not needing to know anything about chemistry to play it, I would actually love it if games made more of an effort to synthesize the learning of real-world information and practical skills with fun and interesting gameplay.

To me, it's a real missed opportunity that can change something from "time-wasting fun" to "time-efficient fun".

I've heard it uses an old adobe air version. The linux version didn't run on my machine; actually it was the only game I couldn't run, even though I've tried a lot of options :(
Definitely a novelty release that's for sure.

But wouldn't a lack of Chemistry knowledge defeat the whole purpose of this game?

Otherwise, you have another generic indie puzzle game unless there's something the advertisements failed to mentioned. Might give it a shot when it's on sale.

It's 50% off today! :D

Bahumbug, pre-order/launch discounts are nice and dandy, but wouldn't necessarily consider them a sale. Although fifty percent off is more than what most offer.
